How come we don't break? We bend.

Today's pandemic has made people invent their own way of earning by just staying at home. Our safety is our top priority but being safe without nothing to eat can't make us alive. The government has implemented series of lockdowns which made the poor became poorer and almost have nothing to eat for the reason that we all can't go out. Well, except for those who are frontliners. With this reason, some of us disobeyed the law and went out to find any means to bring food on the table. I can't blame them because hunger is so hard to neglect especially if we see kids crying because of rumbling stomach. Good for those families who have the abundance of life because they won't worry a lot compared to the poor ones. There is a support provide by the government which is giving of the relief goods but then those can't suffice the consumption for one week. Consequently, many poor families who again chose to risk their safety going out to earn just for the family. Who wouldn't?

These trying times transform people into the best they can be. Why did I say so? It's because we find ways to earn despite the limitations we have. The situation we are in doesn't allow us to go around and continue working as the virus spreads fast if we don't keep distance. Yes, it's a must to keep ourselves safe. But, as what some say, we won't die because of the Covid-19. We will die out of hunger.

The outside world is dangerous but staying inside of our home and starve is like killing ourselves softly.

Because us, humans adapt to every situation we are in, we searched for ways on how to earn. Some of us went on online business. As we can see, online business nowadays are top hits especially foods and snack. I have this cousin who sells kimchi online and her products are always sold-out. She will post pictures of her kimchi on Facebook but she made sure that the photos look beautiful and can make the customer's mouth water. Personally, I was also convinced to buy because of how it looked like in the photos. Moreover, editing and other enhancing technique must be done when you are selling online because the customers will only see the photos.

After my cousin posted the photos, customers will reach out to her through commenting on the posts or through direct message and then she will deliver the kimchi to the buyers' place. I can tell that she has gain something big on it since her kimchi was always a hit to the people in here. Of course, my cousin also followed safety protocols when she made and delivered the kimchi.

I think this pandemic has made the people in our place to get hungry and crave for something cold and fried. In our town, when the quarantine was lifted, the municipal mayor has given the locals place/stalls for them to have a business wherein they have to pay $1.00 per day as rent. This is not a big deal since foods and snacks there are always sold-out as well. We call this place the Felicity Dream Square. Each stall has different food, snacks, and drinks to offer. The common goods there are barbecues, fried food, snacks like pizza, hamburger, fries, chips. They also have fruit shakes, milk teas, siomai, and other refreshing drinks. Beers are allowed too but the customers should ensure to drink moderately for there are policemen guarding the surrounding. Every Friday, there will be live band as well making the place livelier with different night lights. No need to worry for the people who will go there can't go through if they are not wearing mask and not keeping the proper distancing. I have been there once and I plan to visit again with friends.

Some of my friends are also selling trendy clothes online which is also a good business. Well, we have a lot of physical stores here but I think online selling is way better since most of the people prefer buying online and just wait for the item to be delivered. I have my neighbor here whose having an online business of ukay-ukay (preloved clothes). She handpicks everything she sells that's why the quality is nice. Since it's preloved, she will fix everything that needs fixing like missing buttons and loose threads. After that, she will have it in laundry to clean the clothes and iron them to look presentable and ready to wear. Then, she will wear it or place the clothes in the mannequin stand so the clothes will have their perfect fit, ready to be captured.

When editing is done, she will post it on her Facebook Page and everything will be sold-out within the day. Her clothes are also affordable that's why the customers love to buy.

Look how lovely the preloved clothes are for just $4.00
Some girls will be tempted to buy because why not? πŸ˜‚

I realized that these things are the new normal for we can't go back to normal. Instead of lurking in the corner and waiting for the pandemic to end, let's use our creativity and resourcefulness to sustain our needs. There are a lot of ways to earn only if we are willing and industrious. In order for us to not break in the situation, let's learn how to bend.

Note: Our safety is our top priority so don't forget to have enough rest daily and eat healthy foods. Let's be clean all the time. Don't forget to wear face mask and sanitize hands.

To be honest, the pandemic for me was sort of an "I told you so" kind of a moment. For YEARS I have made it a point to communicate to people the need to save and invest, the need to be prepared for things unforeseen like car repairs, medical events, or other financial calamities...including job loss.

For years I communicated to people that living paycheck to paycheck is a disaster just waiting to come up and bite one in the butt. For years I communicated to people to work toward building wealth, not things, and not accumulating too much debt. For years I communicated to people to not live above their means, and not to EXPECT a paycheck to always be there.

And then the pandemic hit and some people who did not heed all of the warnings fell victim to circumstances that the pandemic helped to bring to fruition, but that was all pretty much their own fault.

I know it sounds harsh. But it is also a harsh truth.

You can KIND OF relate the story of the Three Little Pigs. One built a straw house, another built a wooden house, and another built a brick house. The pig with the straw house was doomed when the wolf came along. The pig in the wooden house fared slightly better and had a little more time before the wolf could get his house down. But the pig in the brick house? The wolf could not get to him at all.

The ones who suffered the most during the pandemic were those whose finances were the straw house. The ones who made it just a little bit farther were the ones whose finances were the wooden house. The ones who went untouched during the pandemic were those whose houses were made of brick.

Whose fault was it that the houses came down? The pig's? Or the wolf's? I contend it was the fault of the pig who did not know that a brick house is better than a straw or wooden house.

What's that old saying? If you make your bed you have to sleep in it.

Wow! This sums up what I wanted to day. Hello! Good day. I am happy to read your lovely comments here. And I agree with you in all those points. With ot without knowing the pandemic, we should get ready at all times. Save as much as we can and have as many as we can so when the time comes that we cannot work, we have something in our table, we have a home strongly-built, and funds that can sustain us.

Basta Pinoy, or kahit sino pa yan makakahanap at makakahanap ng way yan para naman may mapag kuhanan din sila ng kwarta in this time of pandemic. Mas safe talaga online kaso hassle din minsan lalo na pag mag free delivery. Pero wait, cousin mo mismo ang gumagawa mg Kimchi 😱 ang galing naman ayt. Pero gusto jo din sana maka tikim nyan when kaya.

In a way, these are proofs that we humans are capable of doing what seems to be impossible especially during difficult times. Totoo yung sabi nila, no matter how many times a man falls down, he can rise up again and again basta may will. And this pandemic is making some people find out their hidden strengths, talents and abilities to survive and thrive even.

The truth is that necessity is the mother of invention and thwho iwhowhat has happened to the world as covid struck. We became what we were meant to be and that is paying off right now. A lot of people are no longer depending on the government for jobs or salaries, they are earning just by doing what they do best to do.
