The moon was so bright the other night that it reminded a story which my uncle told me. This was still the uncle who share about the story of a mystery man underwater, if you had read my previous article entitled Mystery Underwater
This article was not intended to scare, but for us to learn, not only about how we respect on the people that we engage, but also to those elements that we cannot see
My uncle and the other ship workers were about to go for a sail when their captain decided to suspend to fix some problems on the vessel. It happened that the front section of the vessel was broken and they need some log to repair it. Their captain instructed them to cut some trees that they could use, as this would be more convenient for them than purchasing materials. Illegal logging was not strictly enforced at the time, so they could cut whatever trees they wanted. My uncle's friend, who is also one of his coworkers, live in a place with many large trees. He offered to give them some for free in exchange for their assistance in cutting and bringing log.
When they arrived at the location, they saw a lot of trees, but one in particular was larger than the others. Their other friend points to the large tree and says it is ideal for their purposes. My uncle and others agreed because it was very large and would fit the broken part of the vessel. An old man who lived there warned them not to touch it because it is home to spirits. But instead of listening to the old man, they mock him and do what they want, which is to cut down the tree.
They finally cut and prepared the tree after a day to bring and fix their ship. Everything was fine then after another 5 days they were ready to go.
Then a strange event occurred one night while they are sailing.
The moon was so bright that time when my uncle and his friends decided to unwind. My uncle together with his co-workers/friends prepared some hard drinks and kinilaw. They are busy preparing when one of their friend, go first to bring the foods. They usually gathered on front part; in the vessel's bow.
So my uncle's friend went to their favorite spot, and when he was a distance away, he saw a girl sitting in the vessel's bow looking at the sea. The moonlight was so bright that he can clearly see how she looks, she has long and straight hair. Despite the fact that it is not normal; that he saw a girl in their ship late at night, curiosity compelled him to approach her and ask the girl, "Miss?"
The girl then slowly turned around her head, while her mouth wide open. My uncle's friend yelled about what he saw. He takes a step back, and the girl's eyes drop down like a mannequin. He run back to where my uncle and other friends were and told them everything he had seen. They ran to where it is, but when they arrived, they saw nothing. According to his description, the eyes look like cotton when they are already on the floor, "she is a puppet girl," he added.
Imagine having this experience while sailing in the middle of the sea.
They finally arrived after a few weeks and told what had happened to the others. Until they come to the conclusion that the girl is from the tree that they cut and used to repair the front part of the vessel, where the girl appears.
At last my uncle told me that two things that they learned. The first is to respect elders, which we rarely do because we are so focused on modernization. We even tell them they are old-fashioned, but the truth is that they know and have more experience than us, so we should respect them. Second, is to do everything through prayer; they go without performing blessings on the vessel's part, confident that everything was fine until this happened.
Word of the day(for those who don't know)
Kinilaw - a famous filipino dish; a raw seafood dish, which is mostly a fish added with vinegar.
