The woke generation; how bad can it be?

I saw something very disturbing while going through my contacts' Whatsapp status yesterday, someone posted a sex tape that involves a 10 years old girl and her classmates. It was then I remembered coming across a gist like that on Twitter but the exact words used were "a 10-year-old girl was raped", so I didn't pay much attention to it because I have come across a couple of cases like that.

After seeing the video, I quickly ran to Twitter to find out what the hell is going on and that was when I got the full story. Apparently, the school known as Chrisland went on an educational trip in Dubai and one thing led to another, some of the kids engaged in a game of truth or dare and apparently, one of them was dared to have sex with another and they did!

Now I am not going to go into the full details about the whole thing because some Nigerians here have written about it before but a lot of twitizens blamed it all on the parents and teachers of the school. A mother of one of the students in the school came up with her view and said nobody should blame the teachers because they tried their best to maintain order, but those kids still snuck out after midnight.

I am not blaming the teachers or the parents, the society is to be blamed. What a lot of people have been saying about this age is that we are the "woke" generation, which simply means that we are supposed to have more freedom and don't have to resort to the ways of the older generation.

A generation that frowns upon the disciplining of children, where teachers are scared of scolding a child because their parents will rain down fire and brimstone on the school, a generation filled with disrespectful children who are victims of "woke" parents. It has gotten so bad that kids have started picking up very bad habits from a young age and they are cheered on.

I can't count the number of times I have come across a video of a child twerking aggressively online and the mother is recording it and cheering her on. The worst thing is that after posting it online, the comments are mostly of people hailing her and saying the child is very talented, talented at twerking?! Seriously?!

This is something that was heavily frowned upon in the past and mothers are always ready to factory-reset any female child that tries such. Just last week, I saw a video of the young son of a popular celebrity in my country smacking the mother's ass and all she said was "you want to burst my 5 million naira ($8000) a*ss?"

She wasn't even ashamed to admit that she did butt enlargement surgery, and she didn't scold her son for smacking the a*ss of a woman. That young boy is going to grow up thinking it's a normal thing to smack the a*ss of a lady, simply because he has a "woke" mom. Things are certainly getting worse.

This evening while going through Twitter, I also came across a video of a teenage boy trying to lodge into a hotel with two girls, and guess what? He is just 15! (The girls are probably around the same age). What was their aim for lodging in a hotel? I can't even think of a good reason or one that is devoid of immorality.

I am not saying some of these things didn't happen back when I was younger (I saw a lot of crazy things while growing up) but they were always done secretly and away from public eyes because of the backlash. But these days, kids are more open about it and do it publicly because this is the "woke generation".

Part of the problem can be attributed to social media; it's not a strange sight to see children as young as 8 using smartphones and their "woke" parents can't even control the things they are exposed to. They are thrown into the world of social media at a very young age and absorb a lot of things that most of the time are toxic.

Should we then talk about porn? Having access to social media is an automatic road trip to porn sites, it can't be avoided. A lot of nudity is present on social media, I see a lot of them on Twitter and some persons even advertise telegram channel links dedicated to porn, so how can it be avoided?

All these things are happening because this is the generation that doesn't believe in disciplining children, they believe in giving children too much freedom and allowing them to "find themselves", like wtf? I believe a lot in the old ways of doing things, it wasn't perfect but at least we don't have a surge of crazy things like we have today.

Some people have suggested not allowing children assess to smartphones until they are at least 16 years old. But even if you don't buy a smartphone for your kids, won't they make use of their friend's own? That is likely even going to make things worse because they will be desperate to own a smartphone and be just like their mates who already own a smartphone.

Parenthood is indeed scary, there's no sure way to train up your kids that will make them turn out great, it's just by the grace of God. I have seen parents that did all their best to train their children the right way but they end up getting spoilt by society. I know someone that has been a very good girl all her life but just two years in the university completely changed her.

The woke generation is here to stay and sadly there's nothing we can do about it. This problem has been there right from there but it was left alone when it was still an infant, now it has grown too big for anybody to tame and it has now returned to strangle us. I actually fear for the future generations, coz things are likely going to be way worse by then.
