It's crazy the lengths most people are willing to go to just for money, they are willing to kill other people just to make some quick bucks or in this case, scam thousands of people. I came across an interesting post today on nairaland and it relates to an ad I saw on YouTube a few weeks ago.
If you use YouTube frequently, you might have come across the same ad or you probably didn't see it because the people behind it are targeting some countries. So, what's in the ad? It's a little girl who has cancer and she's soliciting donations from the public so she could get treatments, it's a very emotional video.
Y'all know how some of these YouTube ads work, you will have to wait for about 5 seconds before you can skip it and that was how I knew what the ad was all about. I was about to watch a video when the ad popped up and while waiting for the 5 seconds duration so I could skip it, I was listening to the little girl whose name turned out to be Alexandra.
The first sentence she made was "I don't want to die please", with tears running down her face. The video ad was very heartbreaking and I couldn't watch it to the end because I felt pity for her, I had to skip it. I saw the ad about two times before I totally stopped seeing it and forgot about it, until today. It turns out that the whole thing was a scam, a very elaborate scam π
How did they even do it? Did they use an actual video of a young girl who has cancer or did they just get a random girl to play that script so well that it looked real? That isn't farfetched, like I said earlier, you will be shocked at the lengths people can go to just to make money. They had to exploit that little girl for their own selfish interest and it totally worked.
The video ad was also posted on Facebook and a lot of people donated their money. It was originally posted on YouTube in July but it has been on Facebook and Google ads for a while. By July, it has raised over $600,000! That's just crazy! Initially, they said the target for the little girl was approximately $700,000 but when they were approaching that target, they increased it to $1 million! Talk about being outright greedy
They didn't just stop at guilt-tripping people to donate to an imaginary cause, they also wiped out the bank accounts of some of the people that donated. The method of donation is by credit or debit card, which means you will have to put your credit card details on their website so you can donate, that's enough red flag on its own but people are being led by their emotions which has been triggered by the crying girl.
The video touched my heart. I cried because this little girl seemed helpless. But minutes after I donated, my account was wiped out, Esther claimed.
The comment section of their YouTube channel was turned off so that people that realized it's a scam won't have any way of warning anybody that wants to donate it's a scam, it's a very elaborate and sophisticated scam, right? Emotional manipulation is one of the very important recipes of a good scam.
The people behind the whole thing are from Israel and there are a lot of red flags on their website but you will have to translate it to English to see them because everything is in the Hebrew language. The guy in the YouTube video below explained everything wrong with the ad video and the scammer's website.
It's just too bad that someone decided to guilt trip people into donating their money to a scam cause, this will make it harder for people who actually need help to get the help they need because everybody will be more cautious now when it comes to things like this, we don't even know what's real anymore.
It's really sad when you think about it; after feeling sorry for the little girl, you decide to donate some money while thinking you're helping her cause but in reality, you're just sending your money to a bunch of people who sit down in front of their computers all day looking for ways to scam people and at the end of the day, they still end up wiping your account and withdrawing all your savings
And why do all this? Because they rather take your money than work legitimately to make theirs, they will rather steal from you by cooking up fake stories to guilt trip you into giving out your money, thinking about it is more than enough to get anybody pissed off, and resolve to never donate again.

The length at which greed could lead people to is alarming, imagine someone donating their hard earned money to you and at the same time, you take everything from them. That's evil
