Are you a talkative type of person? Friendly? Sociable? Outgoing? Or are you the type of person who enjoys alone time and reserves energy for long stretches of the day at home?
Did you wish you had his/her personality? Did you compare yourself to your friend and doubt yourself why you don't share the same skill and talent?
If you are going to ask me all these questions, I'm guilty as charged. These questions had contributed a lot to my self-esteem stats. It's as if I felt the need to work hard for myself so I'll consider myself as valid.
In my entire life, I spent most of it comparing myself to others. It was a tough one. Not a healthy habit at all. It is important to know yourself first so you can set boundaries and limitations not just to others but also to yourself too. It gives you the validation you need to check yourself and try to work things out.
During my college days, one subject I liked the most was Psychology. I have always like to examine how a person thinks according to their mental capacity and preferences.
I've learned that there are 4 types of personalities and this generalizes to what kind of person may be according to their attributes. Let's go ahead and find out which one are you.
Sanguine (Dolphins)
This type of personality is like a dolphin. They are the life of the party, oozing with energy, friendly, and full of good vibes.
Strengths:
They are optimistic.
They are positive thinkers. They always see the brighter side of the story. They like to keep the energy high. You will see a sanguine personality in someone always happy.
They are demonstrative.
When someone has a sanguine personality, they like to show people around. Usually, they like to move around with music like dancing or keeping the beat high. Although this does not only limit to being energetic. They also like to demonstrate activities and loves to volunteer to help someone and inspire them.
However, all personalities have their downsides.
Weaknesses:
They lack discipline.
This is not to attack the Sanguines here but usually because of their energetic vibes, one would take them as unruly who doesn't follow the rules regularly.
They are forgetful.
There's something about being energetic that they tend to forget names easily. They usually need someone to remind them of dates, names, and schedules. Special mention to keys and wallets.
They're good starters but bad finishers.
When starting a mission or if they have something to attain, they always set an optimistic approach but along the way, they lose the consistency and just go with the flow.
Choleric (Sharks)
These types of people have this authoritative aura. They are usually the ones who establish respect automatically even if it's your first time meeting them. You will have the first impression that he/she is bossy. Put respect on their name.
They are also the ones who take charge of situations, leaders would usually step up. They are result-oriented and ambitious. They are also critical thinkers.
Strengths:
They are goal-oriented.
As mentioned, they do everything to achieve a certain goal. Whatever it takes to make everything possible. They are strong-willed so they don't easily give up when one stumbles down.
They are decisive.
When a situation arises, they keep their plans as one. They stick to it and commit to whatever they have agreed. A choleric is someone who practices firm decisions.
Weaknesses:
They have a bad temper.
Because of their strong personality, they usually lose their temper when things are not working out smoothly. They are usually reactive when something happens because it hinders their focus on the main goal. They might be reacting too much but they stick to their goals nevertheless.
They are arrogant.
Since they have this strong aura of being bossy, people would take them as arrogant. They are argumentative as they want to fight for their thoughts.
Melancholic (Oysters)
The melancholics are the introverted type of people. Melancholics are like oysters who are reserved but have a beautiful pearl inside.
They are usually creative and loyal. The sculptors, artists, painters, writers, musicians have this kind of personality. They are often labeled as weird and boring but when you finally open their doors to you, you would be amazed how they express their thoughts.
Strengths:
They are deep-thinkers.
Melancholics have this existential intelligence where they think deeply as to how things matter to them. They spend time deciding with careful thoughts. As a result, they maintain sensitivity to the people around them and weigh whether it will cause them something.
They are good planners.
They usually have their notes with them. They like to plan things ahead of time. They are organized and very goal-oriented. With thoughtful decisions, they also find creative solutions to whatever situation but keeping a high standard manner.
Weaknesses:
They are pessimistic.
Because of being too self-critical, they usually tend to be pessimistic. They question themselves if something goes out of hand and blame their decisions.
As a result, they also criticize other people based on their decisions because of setting too high standards.
They lack courage.
When the pessimistic side of them activates, they lose courage. They became skeptical and begin to weigh things that they have done wrong. It is very challenging for melancholic to keep their composure when things don't go according to plans.
Phlegmatic (Turtles)
The Phlegmatics are the most balanced among the four personalities. They are the ones who enjoy a calming and relaxed environment. Someone who avoids conflict and would rather stay lowkey.
I call them a "go-to-person" because they can provide you a well-thought and rational decision, not too energetic but not too emotional as well.
Strengths:
They are calm and relaxed.
I am amazed how the Phlegmatics compose themselves amid intense situations. You would themselves as the perfect mediators when arguments start to rise. They provide you a helpful and creative solution to the best they can be.
They are patient and cool.
Have you seen someone who has an extra mile of patience and keeping his/her head cool at the same time? That person keeps a profile of being cool without giving the other people's impressions as arrogant. That's how a Phlegmatic person is.
Weaknesses:
They are sometimes unresponsive and passive.
When a phlegmatic creates boundaries of his/her own, expect them to be unresponsive. They do have their personal space as well but when they respond to you, it is going to be a helpful one as always.
They are easily manipulated and abused.
People would always have something to say. They mistake you for being a good person and so what they usually do is that they manipulate you and abuse your kindness. This is what happens to a phlegmatic who showcases one's goodness and kindness.
These four types of personalities may serve as your way to discover more of yourself. I have also associated the personalities of these animals because they are perfect examples showing the same attributes with a specific person.

Hmmm.... So there are no other kinds? Because I don't seem to fit in any of them. Or rather, I seem to fit a little bit in all of them. I'm energetic in conversations, I am open, honest, and extrovert. I am guilty of all three of the dolphin's weaknesses. Buuuuut.... I am also strong-willed, decisive, and will do anything to accomplish a goal if I don't forget or am distracted by another goal. I also tend to take the lead, often simply because I am the first to come to a conclusion and a plan of action and the first to start putting the plan into action. I also have been called arrogant but is it arrogance if you're actually better than the one calling you arrogant? And lastly, I am calm, relaxed, and the more intense and pressured the situation becomes the calmer and focussed I become. I turn out to be the mediator far more than I'd like to, but cannot argue with the results from the past. I can spend days on my own, avoiding contact with other people and enjoying the time alone, while on the other hand there are also periods i can't stand to be alone and spend most of my time being with other people or being on the way to or from other people.
So which one am i? Or am i just screwed up and defective?
