We have all bought a new book and as time goes by we do not finish reading it and it remains stored in some corner. Commonly there is a long list of excuses such as lack of time, loss of interest or that it is a very heavy book that cannot be transported. This is a symptom of a deeper problem; human beings get bored quickly. The brilliance of a new book captivates us for a fairly short time. When things become too routine we look for something else to capture our attention and satisfy that craving for novelty that so characterizes us in the 21st century. There are times when, after a while, we realize that a certain book is not working for us.

In that sense, it's all about finding that one book that changes everything. The key is to decide beforehand which book you will read and at what time. Of course, this doesn't mean that if a story grabs you it's forbidden to read it out of bed. The idea is to have a structure that allows you to advance regularly with each book, avoiding leaving any behind. If in a certain context you feel like reading one of the other books on your list, that's fine. There are readers, who will finish their books regardless of whether they like them or not. I understand if someone moves forward to give a chance that at some point they are interested in the plot, because they want to get to know a certain author, because it's a borrowed book or given as a gift. Any reason to keep reading is as licit as the decision to abandon.

Putting aside a book unfinished because you consider it "a hassle" or "not worth the effort," perhaps because not reading it makes you feel guilty or because you would hate to start over, is a common problem. However, by forgiving yourself for not being consistent with reading and re-reading parts of the book you have already read without worrying too much about returning to the same thing, you might overcome the feelings that it is not worth the effort and you might discover new perspectives after returning to the book. I believe that we all feel empty, we all go through difficult moments and experience those existential doubts that those around us cannot always solve. Books are an accessible source for many of these questions that can serve as authentic therapeutic tools.

Indeed, the habit of reading is currently reserved for special people. People who crave knowledge and the possibility of achieving excellence in their personal and professional lives. Thanks to reading we can enter wonderful worlds, get to know the minds of different people and explore the unknown. It is worth stopping for a few minutes to reflect on the habit of reading and all that it can bring us.  The wealth of knowledge to which reading exposes us is infinite and very valuable. In addition, thanks to reading you can learn about the life and work of notable people, in which, many times, they tell you what worked and what did not in their lives, what lessons and valuable learnings they extracted from it, how to make decisions, how to assume leadership, etc.

In conclusion, it is common for a reader to lose enthusiasm for reading, known as reader's block. This is a period of time that can span days, weeks, months or even years, and can cause great distress in the reader. Choose light reading. You can choose books of few pages and that are easy to read, of course embarking on long novels is the least recommended to get out of a break, as well as poetry books, anthologies of short stories, graphic novels, comics, manga. With readings of this type it is easier to lighten our mental load and resume our reading habit. Reread one of your favorite books. It doesn't matter how unmotivated we are, or how lazy we are to immerse ourselves in reading. If one thing is clear is that there will always be that one book that we can reread over and over again without getting tired.

Do you find it hard to finish a book?

I started reading when I was 3 years old (I told about that here: https://read.cash/@Mictorrani/learning-languages-how-i-do-a576f6c9 ) and I have never stopped. To me it's as necessary as breathing and eating. The mind can also starve, it needs nutrition in order to grow.

Undoubtedly the best way to nourish our mind is to create the habit of reading, a practice that unfortunately is slowly disappearing.
