Know it all.

Although teenagers seem to know it all and don't always listen to advice, the reality is that inside they are dealing with multiple insecurities. They think they are already doctored in life's journey and don't hesitate to make more than one risky decision. Our advice doesn't matter, the advice we feel we have the capacity to give them because we are older and more experienced. Our words are just noise, voices carried away by the wind. And if we analyze a little, we also acted the same way, we longed for independence and thought we knew more than anyone else. It is hard to reproach them when, in fact, it is a prototypical behavior of these ages. However, there is one aspect that we cannot leave aside.

In fact, however determined they may seem to us, however defiant they may be at times, inside they are full of insecurities. Everything is new to them and they want to experience everything, but they carry doubts, fears, uncertainties and many misconceptions. Young people, especially those between the ages of 11 and 17, seem chaotic, unpredictable, responsive and even insufferable. Adolescence is a long period conditioned by multiple dimensions that we adults sometimes neglect. We may only notice the change in their bodies, their height and the way they dress. Well, it is their brains that organize a slow and profound transformation that can determine, in many cases, their lives. On the other hand, there is the society that contains them and to which they are gradually awakening.

In that sense, it is a scenario full of powerful stimuli that they are eager to experience and that often overwhelms them. They think they know everything, it is true, and do not hesitate to give their opinions to challenge us and make decisions that often do not make much sense. To decide is also to mark distances from others and to demonstrate (almost impose) one's own identity. Even if sometimes these decisions are totally imprudent and ill-considered. Adolescence is marked by multiple contradictions, those that even they themselves find difficult to understand. Sometimes they want to be alone, but they also long to be listened to, loved and understood. They want to find their place in the world, but what they are passionate about today is boring in the past, they want to fulfill many goals and dreams.

Let's take into account that they do not always know where to start and this overwhelms and even demotivates them. They have a multitude of references to look up to, those they see every day on social networks. They are young people who shield themselves in a false shell of solvency and invulnerability, but inside they feel lost most of the time. They are just people in the process of learning who are exploring the world and themselves. But we will also find wise and thoughtful adolescents who are fully aware that they do not know everything, and that it is good to talk and consult with adults. That is why emotional self-awareness is the basic capacity to understand our own internal processes and to relate appropriately with others.

In conclusion, emotional awareness is the ability to recognize our own feelings and is the basis of emotional intelligence and social skills in adolescence. Adolescents today are the protagonists of new social phenomena, such as the endless leisure of weekend nights, the emergence of new nightclubs, alternative parties of diverse and changing location, urban concentrations by SMS for botellones or other issues. Today's teenager is immersed in a new culture where the value of effort has been replaced by that of leisure, hedonism, self-centeredness and consumerism. This constitutes a vital stage of transition between childhood and adulthood with imprecise time limits.

Teenagers are not used to listening, what do you think?
