The event in question occurred in the early morning hours of May 19, 2019 on the Malecon in Havana. The Malecon is an extremely crowded place in the evening hours mainly.
The driver was in his car, having a mini party, with loud music, and having even ingested alcoholic beverages that reduced his capacity, in addition to the notable speeding. When he lost control of the vehicle, he went straight to the sidewalk, impacting all who were on his way to a stop a few meters ahead.

«The incident occurred when a car from the private sector, driven by a 33-year-old young man who was traveling along the path in the center of Malecon Avenue, coming from Galeano towards Paseo Street, moved on the sidewalk and hit against the people who were there and later against the wall of the boardwalk ».

In total 5 dead and 18 injured left this fact. The deaths and injuries were understandably very tragic. Imagine leaving home to spend time with your friends, family or your partner and in just a few seconds, life escapes you. It escapes you because of the irresponsibility of a person who did not analyze the situation at all and preferred to drive, when obviously he did not have the capacity to do so at that moment.
We will never tire of saying, and of always publishing, that if you are driving you cannot do anything other than be aware of the road, and be 100% active. It seems that we always repeat the same thing as parrots, but there is never too much emphasis on it. Obviously it keeps happening and we have to make it stop now.
This happens in every corner of the planet. Irresponsible who gamble with their own life, and put that of others at risk. The numbers don't lie, and they are alarming. In addition, when you analyze them, the large % of traffic accidents are due to drunkenness, that is, it could have been avoided very easily.
Main causes of accidents:
Not paying due attention to driving the vehicle.
Driving under the influence of ingestion of alcoholic beverages.
Speeding.
Not respecting the right of way.
Technical defects or lack of maintenance of the car.
Several months later, the driver of the vehicle was prosecuted and his sentence was 10 years and 3 months of deprivation of liberty, for the crime of homicide, injuries and damages, in addition to driving on public roads under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
For me, the sentence was very little. Ending the lives of 5 people in just seconds, in addition to perhaps leaving the other wounded with sequelae, so that in 10 years they will be walking as if nothing else through the streets. All this taking into account, that it was his fault entirely. There are things in the court system that could be reviewed, these things should not be overlooked so easily. 10 years, in my opinion, is quite little. What do you think?
