Save out of the little you have

There is an idiom that says a penny saved is a penny earned. It means saving out of the little you have now is something you'll be glad you did in future. Saving ahead of rainy days or unforeseen circumstances is a good habit one can cultivate. It takes discipline and self-control not to spend wastefully.

Saving, no matter what age you are, is all about discipline and a determined mind to see it through. My mum believed in saving from the very beginning and taught all of us. Every time she took us shopping, she bought us some sweets or ice cream and put aside a coin in our piggy banks. She made a wooden piggy bank for every one of us and when the year ends we all break it and get whatsoever we desire, though our parents do have a say in what we choose.

Showing us the value of money at an early age made me disciplined and determined to save. Saving with a wooden piggy bank isn't safe or logical for me now but luckily some apps help with that. Apps like Piggyvest and Cowrywise are used here in Nigeria for saving. You can pick a date/sequence and the amount you want to save and easily it is done. In the course of my education, I worked at different places as a teacher's aide to pay my way through school. That way of living has made me appreciate the value of money and save more than ever before.

I now contribute part of my earnings in my different ventures to several savings accounts and share some with people that I care about and who care about me. Saving does not have to do with age. You can start today and begin saving for your future use. That doesn't stop you from treating yourself to some good food or soul-lifting activities. Enjoy your money since you worked for it.

You don't have to wait until you have a lot to save. From the little you have, you can keep a little for future use. We are all aware that saving is an act of discipline and hard work. You need to resist yourself to save. The temptation to spend without thinking is always there, sometimes I give in to the temptation but after getting that Shoe or cloth I desire but don't need, I am filled with regrets.

Saving is a habit that one can cultivate. It's not easy but must be done if you want to get ahead in life.

As said earlier, every penny saved is a penny earned. Here are a few tips on how to save without much hassle

-. Set up a savings account, it helps you track your savings and makes it easier for you to save within it.

-. Save for your goals before buying something that is not necessary. Have a list ready of things you need.

-. Save in advance, especially for the rainy days or when work is not going on well

-. Set up a piggy bank. A piggy bank is a container where you deposit your loose change or money as you earn it. It can also refer to an account where your money is stored until you have enough to make a significant purchase like Piggyvest I mentioned earlier (I'm sure other countries have their's too)

-. Don't spend all your salary every month, as little as 10% of your net income over time can go a long way toward building your wealth silently and securely

-. Another thing one needs to avoid is impulse buying. Impulse buying is a powerful thing that can tempt you into spending your money on stuff you don't really need. Spend a week without making any impulse purchases and see how much money you save.

-. keep good books of account, finance and budgeting are serious business, so it's good to take time to keep track of your finances and know where they are going.

In conclusion, this is a decision you have to make yourself and it has no time attached to it. You can start today.

You are right. Saving is indeed the best. Sometimes one don't just spend all his earnings instead had to find solutions to save because we have the rainy days ahead. No one knows what will happen next and so we should save the little we have just for future purpose.

My parents also mentioned to us that at an early age we should be mindful and prioritize having savings. Savings can save us if things didn't come as we planned. Planning to open a savings account this year!

You are right but honestly the way things are going especially in Nigeria is quite difficult to save. To provide onself with basic necessities of life is hard talk more of saving. Things are on the increase but monthly income is not .

You send a good message, but the powers that control the economy and money, think we should lose our money if we save them. Inflation is rising and maybe the only escape from this are cryptocurrencies. The key in building wealth is to invest.

You're right, what 500 Nigeria naira can buy a few years back is more than what it can buy today.

I learned to save from my parents mostly, especially my mom. When she usually collects some amount of money from the tax collector to pay up for my school fees and others. Saving has now become part of me also, up till now am still making sure I keep some amount in my online wallet.

Saving is good and recommendable anytime anyday. The funny mistake I did on saving for times ago is to assumed that ordinary "savings account" is a SAVINGS account. You know, the money in that account is as good as expenses money especially when it has app installed or debit card

Thanks for reminding me that I don't need to have much before I can save. I've been spending so much lately and now I'm beginning to feel the impact from my frivolous spending.

Yeah, our parents really helped us, I remember running to put the little money I got into the traditional piggy bank called 'kolo'. I'm happy that I still have that habit even though savings are digitalized now

Piggybank really assisted alot of us in savings during our early age. All thanks to mother's wisdom as savings had not become an essential part of our lifestyle. " He who fail to economise will definitely agonise".

It's good you and your siblings were taught the culture of saving from a young age. Learning when you're older is much more difficult
