I saw a Tik tok video yesterday and decided to upload it on my status (on Whatsapp). The video was of some kids competing against each other. The game is a popular one which we all must have played while younger. They are to put a spoon in their mouth, with an egg on it and walk towards the finish line without the egg falling. The fast to cross the line without the egg broken wins the game.
Immediately I saw the contestant I wrote one of them off, he was so small and looked out of sort amongst the others. The race started and as expected the rest surged ahead leaving the small boy behind. After a few steps, the eggs on their spoon fell and they were disqualified. The little boy was the only one left in the competition and the crowd looked on with amazement. They started clapping and hailing him till he crossed the finish line. Though it was a video and I wasn’t there for him to see me, I was clapping all through and felt so happy for the little boy.
While I was still at it, I received a message from @Princessbusayo in respect to the video. She wrote-
“Go at your own pace and never rush. In the end, you will win”
This is the reality of life. We all have a different race, different capabilities, and different styles. Never let the progress of another person act as a distraction for you. So many people have ventured into what they should not all because others are doing it. It’s not how far you’ve gone but how well you have done it. Rushing to achieve some things because your friends have achieved it will lead to disaster for you. Because your friend Paul is driving a car at age 23 doesn’t mean you should make getting a car your number one priority.
After reading princess’ message I nodded my head and decided to chip in mine-
“Even when the crowds are praising you don’t let it distract you. They will clap and shout, but focus only on the goal”
This is to you doing well in your endeavours, never let the ovation of the crowd get to you. When you are doing great, it’s normal for you to see people hailing you, praising you and celebrating you. When the other contestant got disqualified, the spectators started clapping. The little boy didn’t let it get into his head. His focus was on just one thing-” The finish line”. Some of the older men right there were so impressed they joined in clapping, one was walking behind him shouting but to my surprise, this little boy paid no attention to them.
We are in a world where people hail you when things are going well for you and they have something to gain. Once there’s a little change in fortune, watch how these same sets of people turn their back on you and change their words. The praises will turn to mockery. Never be carried away by the noise of the crowd.
I went further to add
“And no be by size…I forgot to add that. He is the smallest but his reasoning is bigger than the rest” (a mix of pidgin and English)
The people you’re competing with might be bigger than you in stature, status or have more reputation than you. Do not let that create any fear in you. Believe in yourself first and never let others intimidate you. You might not be the best qualified for a job, you might not be the best writer but that shouldn’t make you write yourself off even before the battle begin.
Some people have low self-esteem. They lose the fight even before the referee blows the whistle. That shouldn’t be. You must be your very own biggest cheerleader. Even when the crowd is booing you, when all is criticizing you, channel your inner spirit and cheer yourself. Remember the battle isn’t for the strongest or fastest but the one with the biggest determination.
Thanks for Reading!🏃♂️💚🏃♀️
