"A time will come when all we will do is to start looking front and back whenever we are walking along the street or on the road because anything like robbery, killing and chaos can happen at any time"- This was the statement to my parent and siblings when we were having a family talk about life. We were gisting and having fun with everybody present in the house while the thought came to my mind and said it.
What leads to this thought?
I was with some of the elders in my street, they are the people I watch football together with. It is fun watching football with them because we argue, make fun, catch a cruise and all. It was on a Saturday afternoon when were arguing about football, suddenly an event happened where we are, what's that? I know you are curious to know, calm down I will tell you.
A boy of 7yrs to 9yrs old ( within that range) was being dragged by his fellow friends of the same age because he was drunk and could not walk by himself. He was staggering and saying all sorts of filthy words that should not be coming out of the mouth of the so-called elders self publicly. All of us there and the people around were shocked at the event and we all opened our mouth wide open and find it very hard to close it. We should not be shocked again because of so many events of similar cases that we have seen but that one was shocking also. I was pained and felt like crying that " what has this world turn into". That was when another man brought another discussion of an incident that happened yesterday. He said he saw a small boy sitting down at that same spot he was and was looking into a tailor shop facing him. Unfortunately, a lady was sewing a cloth as at that time, he was busy sitting and peeping at the lady underskirt and was seeing all her panties and all. He was so serious and could hardly leave until the man caught him and beat the hell out of him.
That was when I went into deep thought about all that is happening around my area and I am sure is everywhere. Young boys and girls are now doing what cannot be boldly said with confidence outside.
Young boys are now smoking heavily and drinking all sorts of drinks that are not good for the body. They no longer care about their parent seeing them, they do it in front of their parent and yet disobey them. They do different hairstyles that a good boy from a trained house will never do. The annoying part of the behaviour is that they now look old than their age. Many of them that we are the same age can no longer say we are of the same age because they look like a grandpa to me. They are old and their body is decaying yet they think they are enjoying their life. If they have small argument between themselves, all they do is to break bottles and want to stab each other, they even going to the extent of carrying knives or cutlass to cut each other. All these are making me scared because they are the ones that will still come at midnight to steal from people when everyone is silent and people are sleeping at the midnight.
Young girls now think sleeping all around with different boys is what they call enjoying life. They also go into drinking different drinks and smoking also. They now look like men and they are no longer portraying their beauty again because the beauty has faded and are looking as if they are grandma. Some of them are even more old than my grandma in appearance because of what they take and drinks. A small girl that should still have a standing breast now has a falling breast as if they have given birth to twenty children.
They are no longer ashame and scared, they now do anything in the open. They say different things that are not supposed to be coming out of a well-trained child. All these makes me sad every blessed day and make me think about what the future holds for good children.
My dad once said and I quote
" The rate at which young boys and girls will have a mental issue ( gone mad) in the future will be terrifying because of what they take and drink"
When I heard this I became very scared. The type of drinks these guys mixed for themselves are too much, it makes them misbehave after taking them and this can lead to mental issues. We have had several cases on the news about young boys and girls running mad after returning from a Friday night club, all these are as a result of the drinks they took. The drink has tampered with their brain and has made them gone mad.
I think I am done writing this, I pray the Lord come to intervene and heal the land. The world is already upside down and need divine intervention and divine healing. But wait?
Who are we to blame? Is it the parent or the government? This will lead to another topic entirely and that should be my next article topic.

hmm... im a parent now. well, parenting is not at all that easy but it should be able give good foundation, -morals. however, the child grows. then, interaction gets a bit complicated -going to school and meeting new friends, and it goes on. perhaps the responsibility of the parents is able to reach out and discipline the child as long as we can, and building good foundation and relationship is best approach that in the passage of time, respect remains untarnished. but still, the child will have other influences, friends, which in due time as the child grows older we (parents) no longer have the say as to who he goes with. so, true. parents are the key, strong foundation is truly a must. however... the other side of the story. not all parents were parented good... so! what those parents had for parents are passed down, down thru their children. unfortunate though.
