"Whenever I see girls and boys
Selling lanterns on the street
I remember the child in the manger as he sleeps...."
Christmas songs can now be again heard playing on the radio!
Filipinos here and there are now singing along. Who wouldn't?
It's been a tradition that when September comes, it means that Christmas is now again coming. This is the reason why the Philippines has the longest time celebrating it. This is how early the essence of Christmas can be felt in the Philippines.
Every Christmas in our country, we are giving gifts and exchanging cards. People, either young or old, are cherishing each moment.
You will also see a lot of Filipinos, mostly children who caroling from house to house. Ninongs and Ninangs or godparents will also give aguinaldos to their inaanaks or godchildren.
In every company and even in schools and organizations, they too have Christmas parties. This is one of the most enjoyable moments because many games will be played, there will also be raffles and exchanging of gifts, and of course to receive the so-called Christmas Bonus.
The most traditional and favored way of how Filipinos rejoice this yuletide season is waiting up late on the 24th for the night-long celebration of the "Noche Buena," a meal that is typically done on Christmas Eve together with family, relatives, and even friends.
About the foods?
Ham, Queso de bola, and the famous Lechon are just a few of the foods which can be served. Since not all can afford these foods, some are just buying per kilo while some are serving alternative foods.
For this yuletide season, I hope that everything will be okay soon. I hope that the pandemic will come to an end soon.
But, anyways, I believe that we can overcome it. We can celebrate it in our own ways. Paano pa't naging Filipino tayo? Hindi tayo susuko.
No matter what kind of challenge that will come our way, it can't stop us nor bring us down. Because even if we are being challenged, we still manage to smile and be happy. That's the spirit!
"...Let Him be the one to guide us as another new year starts.
And may the spirit of Christmas be always in our hearts."
