For this article, I am going to focus on sharing the classic way of how I spend Christmas season with family and friends.

I am from the joyful and beautiful country of the Philippines. Our country is known to celebrate Christmas in a longest period of time. Because here in the Philippines, when September 1 or "ber" months began, it already means that it's Christmas season for us and it is the time where we already get started in celebrating Christmas through many different ways such as: decorating Christmas lanterns in our homes, streets, parks, and other places, kids caroling, playing Christmas songs, "Simbang Gabi", and so on.

Christmas season is also a "big homecoming" here in our country. Expect that there will be so many OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers who will fly back here in their country to spend Christmas with their families and loved ones.

Around the month of December, typically before December 24, most of the group of people arranged Christmas Party events wherein Classic Filipino Christmas Party happens.

What do I mean by that?

1. Classic Filipino foods for feast

These are the typical foods that are being set on the table for the feast: spaghetti, fried chicken, puto, fruit salad, lumpia, barbeque, lechon and so on. It all depends on the different parties but these foods are mostly the really classic ones that I can think of right now. Haha.

2. Games

Typical parlor games that are being played in Filipino Christmas Parties are: Trip to Jerusalem, Charades, Paper Dance, Hep Hep Hooray, Pinoy Henyo, Calamansi Relay, etc.

3. Exchange Gifts

My Recent Classic Filipino Christmas Party with Friends

I have group of friends from high school and 'til now that we are in college, we all remain as friends or "squad". Starting last 2019, we began to have Christmas party which includes only us 10 friends along with other guests (mga jowa ng friends ko hahaha sana all). Followed by year 2020 and just recently, we celebrated our third Christmas party together.

Our 2021 Christmas Party happened just recently, January 3. We haven't been able to celebrate it around December 2021 because almost all of us have our finals for our second semester. But nevertheless, what's important is that we made it happen.

Our Christmas party was held at one of our friends house starting from 11 am until 6 pm.

At 11 am, we all ate our lunch first. It was Jollibee chicken joy and rice (of course), along with iced tea as our drinks.

When we are done eating our lunch, we head on to our "Exchange Gifts". What I received here were dotted notebook, grid notebook, and 3 washi tapes.

Then, each of us contributed ₱20 for our prizes in different games, some contributed more than that amount though. (Sorry na. Yan lang kaya ng budget namin. Hahaha.)

After that, we decided to play games! The very first game that we played was "Hep Hep Hooray!" and ₱50 / $1 was the prize for the winner.

If you don't have any clue what that game is, it is a popular game even years ago in a TV show of "Wowowin".

Afterwards, we played a popular challenge on TikTok which was the "Whoever Spills the Water Fails". We played it girls vs. boys way and the prize was bags of Kisses chocolates. In the end, the boys won but they shared the Kisses chocolates with us. Hihi.

"Trip to Jerusalem" was our third game. It is another one of the most classic Filipino game and it is also known as "musical chairs" wherein the players compete for a limited number of chairs by circling them, and after the music stops playing, the one who gets the last chair is the winner. The prize for the winner in that game was ₱50 / $1 again.

"The Boat is Sinking" was our next game after that. It is a game where the host says "the boat is sinking, group yourselves into *insert any number*". The last two players are the winners. And in this game, I won! Together with my one girl friend. Our prize was ₱50 / $1 again, we divided them into two so we had ₱25 / $0.5 each.

Next, we played the "Paper Dance". It is another classic Filipino game where pairs have to dance on a sheet of paper without touching any part of the body outside the boundaries of the sheet.

After the consecutive games that we played together, we took rest by eating snacks such as spaghetti, fries, and other foods. We also took some group and individual photos, chitchat here and there, and did a TikTok video (it's not a dance hahaha).

After almost an hour or so, we noticed that we still had remaining ₱50 / $1 for the game prize and so we decided to play one last game which was "Jack 'n Poy" or "Rock Paper Scissor" which is a game that whoever beats every player will be the winner.

After all of those enjoyable things that we did, we bid farewell at around 6 pm.

It was a super fun and memorable day for me spent with my friends. 😊

I may be late but belated Merry Christmas to everyone and happy holidays!

Thanks for reading and until the next blog. ❤️
