How are you, beautiful people of Read.cash?
These days, my friend @LykeLyca celebrates her anniversary in Read.cash. She has made a prompt asking us to write about Celebrations.
Celebrating for me is showing appreciation for some event, a special date, a special occasion, or something memorable. But it's also celebrate the small good things that happen in our daily life.
For me, celebrating doesn't necessarily mean having a party. Although, I love family gatherings. Since I was little, I grew up in the middle of big family celebrations. Even though I only have one sister. My family is very close-knit, and I grew up surrounded by my cousins, aunts, and uncles. Vacations were almost always with family. And I have many happy childhood memories of family celebrations.
When I grew up, we continued to do so. Celebrating birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, baptisms, marriages, and any other special event meant celebrating as a family. And just wanting to be together was a good excuse to have a get together.
By many years, It became a family tradition to celebrate occasions like Christmas together in a cabin of my parents and my uncles in Merida, one of the Andean states of my country. We used to spend the holidays together. Of course, a lot of food and drink in between. That place is really special to me. My husband and I got married there surrounded by our families and our closest friends.
In the last years, those family celebrations are no longer the same. My father, some uncles, and aunts have passed. Other uncles and cousins have left the country due to the crisis. And more recently, the pandemic has affected our gatherings. But that hasn't stopped us from celebrating our special events. We can be just the three of us, or sometimes with my sister and her family, but our celebration continues to be special as long as we are together.
The big pompous parties have never been my favorites. And with the years, I have become a bit allergic to them. To celebrate, I don't need a band, a banquet, and many people around who probably mean nothing to me. For me, celebrating is having my affections close, being able to hug them and tell them how much I love them, share a delicious meal, drink a glass of wine, visit a special place and give thanks for being together.
As for birthdays, I like to celebrate them with my family and closest friends. When my son was little, I made him some birthday parties. But now, we celebrate with family and few friends. And for my own birthday, my ideal celebration is the three of us enjoying a nice dinner or even better if we have the chance to travel somewhere, and visit a place for the first time.
I have never taken years off to my age or added some like my friend @rodriguezpct in Celebrating my Forties... Five Times!. I've celebrated each year of my life. Some have been better than others, but in any case, the entire trip has been full of good experiences and moments to remember.
But celebrating is also getting up grateful every morning for the opportunity of a new day. If we think for a while, we will discover we have great reasons to celebrate every day. And give thanks for the good times we already had and for the good times to come. Let's celebrate the good times as in Kool and The Gang's song, Celebration.
Celebrate good times, come on (Let's celebrate)
Celebrate good times, come on (Let's celebrate)
There's a party goin' on right here
A celebration to last throughout the years
So bring your good times and your laughter too
We gonna celebrate your party with you
Come on now
Every day in our life is an opportunity. We must live each day as if it is the last. And celebrate everything that makes us happy. I agree with my friend @FarmGirl. In her article Celebrating in Gratitude, she wrote, "Life itself is a celebration" and I do believe it too.

Over time everything does change. Celebrations, or just get togethers, are very different than they used to be. But still a lot of fun.
