Also, if you are a vegan or a vegetarian, please respect, move along and ignore this post. Thank you.` I'm a just now visiting my read.cash and it's now past 5pm. My Saturday is a general and yard cleaning day, and also movie time in the middle of my chores. While enjoying some time off, I staggered on an old You Tube video which gone viral when it was first shown a couple of years prior. **This was a one of the scenes of the popular Series 90 Day Fiance** starring Larry (American) and Jenny (Filipina). It turned out to be so famous on account of Jenny's **"You're Road"** remark against her life fiance Larry. I'm certain all of you have seen it and in case not, here's the video. Watch and let me know what's your opinion on the response of Jenny (the girlfriend) and her family against Larry (American guy) who doesn't eat roasted pig.
**You Tube Link Here:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X91V5h8VbV8 There's a lot I could say about both the Filipina and the American guy in a harsh way. I'm curious though how Filipinos (and foreigners as well) feel about his not wanting to eat this special **lechon meal (roasted pig)** that was made just for him. **Was he rude?** **Do they have a right to be upset?** **Should they understand the cultural differences?** **Did she (girlfriend) take time to find out what he likes?** **Did he (American boyfriend) consider researching life in the Philippines, particularly in the province?** He should have been prepared for damn near anything. Also, I think the girlfriend should've asked the American boyfriend first before they set it up because I'd comprehend the person not encountering on having roasted pig previously. So okay, 90% of the world eats pork, probably didn't cross their mind the method of preparation. The ideal situation would have been both educating themselves regarding cultural differences and talk about it. "Maybe" (my opinion) Larry just has a weak personality. People who communicate well know how to turn down food without being disrespectful. People who are adventurous would take a bite. And he doesn't like it after one bite, then he can say NO! He just didn't know how to deal with it. **Cultural differences is an art.** **Communication is a skill.** They sort of lacked both.
*Just a short commercial break. My husband is also American city boy born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He's been here in the Philippines and stayed for 6 years. During that period of time here when pigs see him, they run. He's always the first at the table grabbing the best crispy skins lol. And he goes,* ***"If I die, I'll be smiling with a mouthful of lechon!"****. Silly white boy lmao. He has tasted frogs, jumping salad (raw shrimp salad) and most Ilocano veggie dishes like pinakbet. I noted pinakbet(mixed veggies in fish sauce) because he's not a big veggie mix guy.He doesn't like the bitter veggie (ampalaya/bittergourd) which is my daughter's favorite. He would not react as what Larry did though. He would say* ***"NO, Thank You"*** *in a heartbeat if he doesn't like the food or something you have offered.*
**A Little Lechon History In The Philippines** When we talk about lechon, this is one of our best food in the Philippines. Filipinos would consistently favor hosting lechon in their gatherings and social affair. In a family assembly, a birthday celebration, or in any occasions, lechon is constantly served on the table. Lechon is also consistently present in feasts and in thanksgiving. Its name brings an unmatched cheer among Filipino visitors, and its essence quite often ensures a merry air. In the event that you drop in on huge social affairs in the Philippines or among Filipinos, from birthday events to celebrations or holidays, weddings to Christmas parties, it is practically sure that you will see it in plain view at the focal point of the table. So don't be surprised, my foreign friends.
Now, going back the main topic (Larry and Jenny), what is your opinion about what happened in the video? (link posted above). I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please no racism. No insults. No bullying. Thank you everyone. I am now hungry lol. Good afternoon to all and I hope you're enjoying your weekend. Your husband from Nevada? Definitely I will ask him about Area 51.
Yes, Hasan. I think he posted something about Area 51 not so long ago.
Wait... What? He is here too? I don’t know.
Uhmm no. He was on Bubblews before and been a writer coach hehe. Also in other blogsites. Now, he stopped cause he is now working 2 jobs.
I think both side sila mag adjust to meet in the central kasi pareho sila laki sa ibang cultural.
Have you seen the video, sis? Onga, eh. Need nila mag-adjust talaga :) Good afternoon. Ano ulam natin?
Yes ate I saw it and I don't know how to react. Seeing the faces of Jenny parents lalo na si tatay pinaghirapan nila nyo para to surprise Larry hindi ko rin masisi si Larry. Paksiw na isda ateee😊
wow paksiw sarap nyan sis!
Onga, sis eh. Ano masasabi mo kay girl and bf? hehe
Hello dear. What a surprise with your piglet from the Philippines. In my country pork is very common in our menu. And in my parents' typical food it was too. Eating pork for me is a pleasure.
Pork especially roasted, grilled or deep-fried is heaven hehe. Good morning, my friend!
Madame napanuod ko un..hahahha natawa ako sa your road..ang alam ko sa estoryang yan..hndi kumakain c boy ng letchon at parang vegetarian yata yan xia kc hndi xia kumakain ng karneng baboy..parang ganun ung pagkakaintindi ko,tapos nagalit c kabayan kc ung effort daw, at binabastos ung pamilya nya kc hndi na appreciate ung paghahandang ginawa nila..kaya nagkasagotan clang mag jowa..
eh di naman lang sila ngtanong if gusto nya yun, sis no? satin, gowww. eh sa kanla, iba hehe.
Helloooooooo. I'm baaaaack. Hahaha. My friends and I watched it all together abd we laughed at that "You're rowd". We're so mean right? And we felt sorry for Ed but for me, both parties are to be blamed for what happened. Anyhow, where's that lechon? I want that crispy skin right now 😁
Haha onga, Jonna!
Wahaha. I have watched the episode. Larry is so mean, parang nandiri siya hehe. Sarap naman po ng lechon. Enjoy! 🎉
I guess both sila my shortcomings... hindi naman sa rude si lalaki...kung di talaga siya kumakain nyan, the gf should have known and should have respected his decision not to eat one. Sabi mo nga sis it is a skill.hehe
Hehe nag assume kasi agad silang dalawa, sis :D
As a Hindu and a vegetarian by culture, the first thought that came into my mind after seeing the pig was "Oh no, poor pig" hahaha, but yet, am not gonna criticize regarding other's food... I grew up along other kids who eat meat, so I got used to seeing those foods. And understanding other's cultures and practices are very important before sayng something, otherwise, we will end up embarrassing ourselves on the internet
I so agree, doll.
Watched the video and I think the guy isn't rude. He tried his best to get a bite but seems he really didn't like it so for me, it's okay. Saka sya pa talaga unang pinakain :) It must have been really uncomfortable, lol! Nagutom ako, buti kakain pa lang kami haha.
"napasubo" hahahaha...
Hehe kain, sis.
Tapos na sis hehe
I had watched this video before and this was even featured in Jessica Soho, Jenny's line became "famous". For me, both of them should consider their individual differences especially in culture. Aside from language barrier.
I agree with you, sis!
Your lucky sissy, umuwi kna din sa Nevada maganda daw doon? Anyway about sa topic sissy yap tama ka naman na he can say in polite and yes nakakainis yong jnasal nia. Di din kami kumakain ng pig pero di naman siguro ganon reaction ko, I can refused not to taste in a polite way naman
How lucky sissy, atleast pag uwi nio don ok na lahat sis, im happy 4u
I think I've watched this years ago, medyo rude talaga ng way ng pagsasalita yung guy. I felt bad sa family na nagprepare non for him. For me, pag welcoming siguro, nag eat out muna sila, para may sense of choice. (Tsaka safe din, for me). Kasi for sure gumastos nang malaki for that paghahanda
Sila tuloy dalawa biktima, sis hehe
Oo parehong may fault.
Wow! Yummy lechon.
the best po :)
Ah dun pala galing amg you're road hahaha. Never really know about the story. Until now. Hehe team up fail. 1 . He was already nervous. Maybe that's why he didn't know how to say no. Because saying it and not saying it would most likely show the same no? Nga ba? Ate would still react to it. We filipinos are still a bit sensitive with such assertiveness i think. 2.the girl said she's got his back. Lols. Guess not. 3. Maybe they haven't touched the topic of food neither of them would want to eat hehe. I'm thinking if you are partnered with someone not your same culture, food would be one thing to talk about. I guess mister lechon was not included. Te.. was food one of the topics you and kuya will talked about even before you got engaged? Or was it never a topic? I guess it differs din? Lols.. . Naawa ako slight kay kuya. When he hesitated no one even thought "oh he does not eat pig". Hahaha
Yes, Pich yan napag-usapan namin before pa kami magpakasal. Food, supertitious beliefs, Filipino time, mga ganyan hehe.
Nah, Jenny should have asked Larry if he eats lechon. It's just a matter of questioning and understanding each other's differences.
Di man lang tinatnong yung foreigner eh syempre wala pa sya knowledge about sa culture natin.
Filipino food is the best sis lalo na yung lechon sa cebu hehe
Still have to watch that. Anyways, pahingi ng balat. 😁😋
