The moment I became a mother, we frequently visited the hospital for check-ups for my first born was a sickly one. The hospital was his second home.
During check-ups, I sometimes forget what am supposed to ask the doctor thats why I write on my cellphone what I needed to ask.
Another check-up drove us to the city of six-hours ride was exhausting. The pediatrician was very friendly and accomodating knowing we have came a long way. She had asked the onset, frequency, duration of the symptoms and many lot more. I was unable to tell the exact frequency so she suggested we provide a small pocket notebook to write the exact frequency of signs and symptoms and other needed information. Keeping a list of some recurrent signs and symptoms makes it easier for the doctor to assess and make a diagnosis.
I suggest that those who are having health conditions should also keep a pocket notebook to note the signs and symptoms' of your concern as it helps you to remember or something your doctor will help him in diagnosing.
In addition, asking the right questions, can also direct the doctor's decision -making. This way, your dr is obligated to address your concerns honestly and directly.
1. Childs head trauma
Who are parents here?Do you admit that not only once you were not able to avoid your toddler getting tripped, or hit his head? Toddlers are naturally unmanageable at times, they do things in a split of seconds when you take off your sight from them. Thus, resulting them to trip, hit their head or fall which is only minor one..
Injuries from falling especially at play, sports ,minor accidents, or even a child abuse can cause eye and brain damage. They show up as a range of behavior changes that can signal life-threatening problem resulting from head trauma.
Behavioral changes to observe include child not acting himself and is unusually sleepy, inattentive or agitated, take him immediately to the doctor and ask, "Could a head injury or trauma account for my child's symptoms?"
Traumatic brain injuries are a leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults. Concussions happen when the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord has been throttled. A more serious problem occurs whej there is progressive pooling of blood from a torn vessel on the surface of the brain-a medical emergency requiring surgery.
Symptom like bleeding in the eyes are visible changes that helps a doctor diagnose shaken baby syndrome and repetitive injuries from sports.
Other signs on a doctor's exam include slight weakness in the arms and legs, or abnormal pupil responses.
2. Back pain and joint pain
Back pain and joint pains are often thought of as an inevitable result of injury or getting older. But pain is usually your body's way of telling you that something is very wrong. Don't ignore it as there are life threatening diseases that mimic these aches and its important to catch them as early as possible.. Ask your doctor if you're experiencing constant pain in your back or joints, "Besides arthritis or injury, what could be causing my back pain or joint pain?"
Prostate cancer and other abdominal problems. Prostate and pancreatic cancers and kidney stones can create back pain, often with sharp knife sensation on the middle or lower back. These diagnoses are commonly missed as most people don't associate back pain with cancers or stones, so they may not mention it.
Osteoporosis. These weakening and thinning of the bones is often related, but it's now happening to younger people, too. It can lead to small fractures in the spine and other areas, causing pain.
Lupus. This chronic autoimmune disease typically appears as a dark "butterfly" rash on the face, accompanied by severe joint pain.
Swollen joints. it can be a sign of joint infection that can be lethal if not treated quickly, so don't take wait- and-see approach with swolen, aching joints.
Bone cancer. Pain can be caused by bone cancers as well as other csncers that spread to the bones. Common targets are the spine and rib cage.
Lyme disease. this condition is usually transferred by ticks. It often surfaces as joint pain, with or without a rash.
I Think I have to stop here so as not to bore you with a very long post. (min exclusive k ayeh, nable ak hi type kn paraphrase yah. min elis q mu aji kyet)
Coming soon will be on questions on stroke, severe headache, the flu, breast cancer, chest pain, abdominal pain, childbirth and macular degeneration.
