First Day of School
Going Back to School
After almost two months of vacation, first day of school began this morning. My kids were enrolled in a public school near us for two consecutive years already. Eversince the online class was implemented last year, Anthony ( my husband )and I opted to transferred the kids from private school to public school. One of the reasons was that our source of income were affected by the ongoing pandemic. This year, by God’s grace my husband finally got back on the ship but then we both decided to let our kids in the same school they were enrolled last year. And yes this morning the academic year for 2021 -2022 officially started.
I woke up the kids at around 7 am this morning, because the virtual flag ceremony will start at around 8 am according to their teachers. I prepared their breakfast and gave them some hot chocolate. The good thing about online classes was that you can went on class without taking a bath.😅 Agree? Because the time was getting late for their virtual flag ceremony I just told my son to hurry up and wear his polo uniform while still in pajama. But then the supposed virtual flag ceremony didn’t happened to give way to DepEd (Department of Education) live program welcoming the students on their first day of classes nationwide. While waiting for the next class, the kids took a bath and got ready for their first meeting online along with their classmates and teachers. Their printed modules and worksheets wasn’t available yet. It was supposed to be given last week but due to inclement weather status it didn’t push through. It was rescheduled tomorrow morning for my Grade 4 and in the afternoon for my Grade 6.
Meeting the Teachers and Classmates
When the teachers sent the links for their online class, my kids immediately got the code and entered it on their google meet account. In public schools this is where they meet during online classes, and the time allotted for each subject each week is one hour. Not enough right? Yes, the time allotted is very limited for the kids to get enough learning that was why they have printed modules and worksheets. It is also the parents job to guide their children with some lessons. In this type of learning the cooperation of everyone is a must. So going back to their online meet, since it’s the first day of the class and there isn’t any modules available yet they had an introduction for the whole meeting. They spend the whole hour introducing each other and sharing all their hobbies. My kids were having fun the whole time they were sharing this and that. I was watching and listening to them from time to time. They almost had the same time of class, my oldest was on the second floor of the house while my youngest was on the first floor. Then after a short while the online meet ended and the first day of school was done.
Final Message
It’s gonna be another year of struggles with all the worksheets, retrieval of modules and performance tasks. Last year, it has been really hard but from what I have observed earlier I think this time will be a little easier. With all the supports from the teachers and parents I think we can manage this online classes much easier than we have last year. (crossing my fingers) Personally I do prefer a face to face but with all the rising cases in our place I don’t think it will be a good idea at all. One more thing I am so excited with, is that my oldest son is on his last year in grade school. I am excited for this but feels a little sorry because his graduation will be a whole lot different from what we used to do. Well there is nothing we can do about it. No matter how much we wanted them experience the things we’ve had in the past, the present situation we had now won’t allowed it.
Now that the first day of online classes have started I hope all the students will strive and study harder. Always remember that every hard work will be worth it in the end. To the teachers may you continue to teach your students with the best of your knowledge even though this kind of learning is different from what you’ve used to do. And lastly to all the parents like me let’s all continue to guide and keep supporting our kids with all our heart. And with all our determination we will once again pass this school year.
