The Yugoslav national team was in the group with Brazil, Bolivia, the other groups were Argentina, Chile, France, Mexico, the host of the championship Uruguay was in the group with Peru and Romania, and the United States of America dominated the group with Belgium and Paraguay.
Despite the fact that the Yugoslav national team was given a small chance to pass the group with Brazil, Yugoslavia made a surprise and beat Brazil 2-1, and later beat Bolivia in the last group.
In the semifinals of the World Cup, the winner of group 1 Argentina with the winner of group 4 USA and the winner of group Yugoslavia with do, the host of the championship Uruguay, played.
In both semifinals, the matches ended with an unusually high score of 6: 1. In the first semifinal, Argentina took the lead in the first half with a goal by Monti against the USA. In the second, there was a catastrophe of the Americans whose strength was tamed thanks to the mobility of the Argentine attackers. By halftime, the advantage was increased to 3: 1, and by the end the result grew to a high 6: 1.
In the finals, as at the Olympic Games, the National Teams of Uruguay and Argentina found themselves, what was interesting was that both halves were played with different balls, first with the ball, first half with the ball from Argentina and second with the ball of the host Uruguay.-The Uruguay national team, after falling behind in the first half 1-2, came to a turning point and won 4-2 and became the first successor to the World Cup.
It is a little unclear which national team won the 3rd place and whether the match was played between Yugoslavia and the USA at all.
The FIFA Technical Committee report for the 1986 World Cup included a retrospective of the placement of all national teams at previous World Cups; this report stated that the United States was third and Yugoslavia fourth, however, the 1984 Fifa Bullet claims that the match for 3rd place was played and that Yugoslavia won 3: 1.FIFA was guided by the fact that the teams of the USA and Yugoslavia had the same number of victories and defeats in the championship (2: 1), but the USA had a better goal difference. 7: 6 (+1), and Yugoslavia 7: 7 (0), so that FIFA officially takes the USA as the third-placed team at the 1930 World Cup.
