No one could argue that social media has become part of our daily lives. Be it the news, gossips, how-to's, and just about anything else we feed our minds with social media clutter from people's timelines and pages.

For someone who has access to these sites I find it convenient and a real time saver when I want to know something or even someone. If there's a game I wanted to be familiar with, Youtube is my go to site. Or when there is someone I am curious about I can go to several platforms and do the lowkey sleuthing, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and yep, Tinder?

Our dependence on social media has been so observable that it had also a great impact even with out governments and how the election system works. I would not delve deeper on this topic in this article, maybe next time(nah).

I used to write blogs about social media and social media marketing back then and I just woke up this morning pondering the articles I've written before. The impact social media has before was great but it grows even bigger now from day to day. As I think about all of those, I found myself wondering how social media sites are now today. I would like to write about their present status, numbers and all but as I was gathering intel from the internet, I enjoyed looking at interesting facts instead. Hence, I'm just going to share with you some of the facts that I found interesting from all over the internet.

Facebook Facts

• Facebook is the most popular page in Facebook

  This is not surprising nor interesting. I just had to include it. LOL What's the second popular you ask? Hmmm..

• The word "Poke" has no apparent meaning

  If you are like me, who used facebook from its early years, you might be familiar with this feature or function. It's a feature of early Facebook that lets users catch the attention of another user by "poking" them. This will then send the target user a notification that someone has poked them. Hmm. Poking people, that was fun. :)

• Around four-in-ten U.S. adults (43%) get news from Facebook

  I'm also guilty with this. I get news from news feeds and then gather more information from posts and tweets. Very millenial. LOL

• In terms of audience size of Facebook, India ranks first

  Hmmm. Interesting, have you or anybody you know been messaged by my friend Rajesh for a pic of your "bobs and vagene"? LOL

• In any given month, approximately 1.28 BILLION people are active on Facebook – roughly equivalent to the entire population of India, the world’s second most-populous country

  Hmmm. Again, is this related to the entry above?

• Only a quarter of all Facebook users change their privacy settings.

  Okay, this one's alarmingly true. Social media is where we practice over sharing, so please don't be just a number and take time to read your settings and set them accordingly.

• Facebook has been dubbed as the hardest social media to resist

  Hmm.. is this true for you? I find Instagram more absorbing than FB. The best pictures are on there. When people post on Facebook they just dump a massive load of pictures unlike in IG, the best of the best will be seen there.

• Facebook's project name was "Facemash"

  You may have heard or seen this from the movie but still, it's quite an entertaining thought: What if it's really called Facemash? I don't think I'll poke you there.

Twitter Facts

• First ever tweet was sent on March 21 2006

  Wow, it really has been a long time. I remember it being a plain feed that you can scroll down and up. Now there's tons you can do in it.

• The bird logo is called Larry

  Surprisingly, it's from Larry Bird, the NBA Legend.

• Known Hatching of the Hashtags was August 23, 2007

  It's said that the user Chris Messina proposed the pound # sign to be used as some sort of grouping of messages or tweets. I wonder if he was ever been paid regarding that huge change in social media. I wish.

• #ALDubEBTamangPanahon holds the world record for most used hashtag in 24 hours

  Wow, my fellow Filipinos could relate to this. I know that the Philippines is active when it comes to joining this crowd mentality but, a world record? Wow.

• Twitter Feuds

  From celebrities to fast food chains. The back and forth banters on Twitter are really entertaining. Hello Kanye, Hi Taylor and Katy. :)

Instagram Facts

• Instagram is owned by Facebook

  yeah, I just like to throw that in there.

• Instagram's engagement rate is 7x higher than Facebook

  For the most part, I really am engaged in IG than Facebook because of the well shot, and nicely edited pictures. Sana All, engaged. LOL

• Most Liked Photo in Instagram is an Egg

  The photo and the account for that matter was made for that purpose alone. To get the world record from the previous holder, Kylie Jenner. And, an egg? Really? There's tons of things that could be taken a picture of, but an egg? Guess that's the answer to the all-time mind-boggling question. Which comes first?

• Clarendon is the most used filter

  I don't care much about filters, but posting a picture on Instagram #nofilter is just not sitting right with me. I'm weird that way.

• Instagram was called "Codename"

  That's pretty cool. But I wonder who changed it to Instagram?

• The most Instagrammed food is Pizza

  Oh cool, now I am in the mood for some slice.

• Selfies are the most uploaded photos in Instagram

  I'm not surprised. I am not sure which made which. Are selfies a thing because of Instagram or is Instagram a thing because of selfies.

TikTok Facts

• TikTok was also Musical.ly

  I always wondered what happened to that app. Now I know that they've been bought by TIkTok and the 2 merged.

• TikTok is banned in India

  Hmmm. I can smell privacy and security breach issues.

• China's Tiktok is Douyin

  TikTok is not available in China but a Chinese counterpart called Douyin is.

• TikTok was the most downloaded app in 2020

  This may be caused by the pandemic and the lockdowns. People were confined at home and were bored to their bones doing nothing at their houses. Personally, I'd rather watch dancing ladies over watching our dogs all day.

• New hits on TikTok

  I believe that new dance crazes and songs could go viral if they can make it in TikTok. Is there any TikTok challenge you've tried?

Youtube Facts

• Average Youtube watching time is 52 minutes

  Oh, at least I can eat my lunch in under 10 minutes then Youtube with that 50 or so minutes.

• 300 hours of video is uploaded to Youtube every minute

  Imagine that. Every single minute! Who has the time to watch all that?

• Most viewed video is Baby Shark Dance by Pinkfong Kids Songs and Stories

  Wow. I guess that this indicates a boom in the population and the growth of new generation of kids with Youtube as their first visual encounter.

• YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind most disliked video

  I don't know if this is by design or what but Youtube itself uploaded this video and it has a staggering 19.01M dislikes.

• Despacito is the most liked Video

  I really can't hear the awesomeness from that song. Maybe because I don't understand it. Maybe.
