Previous Chapter : Something's Afloat
"Aaaahhh!!!!" her screaming rang around the entire island and the fishes swam away from the shore as she disturbed every single creature there is in the island's vicinity. The other creature with her was running frantically towards her.
Andy heard the lady scream and immediately thought that she was in some kind of trouble. He ran towards the water where the squeal came from and he saw from a distance that she was swimming towards something. He was relieved to see that she was not in any immediate danger at all. He wondered what it was she saw that made her so excited.
Princess An was so please and was just so excited as she touched the floating object. She pulled it closer to her. It was one of her luggage. It was a miracle that it floated towards the island. She pulled it back to shore.
Andy was looking at her as she swam back to the shore. She was pulling a suitcase. The luggage was plastic and looked really waterproof. And it was of a bright pink kind of color. It's the type of color that you can't really miss in a crowd even if you try to. He walked to meet her up and helped her carry the luggage.
"Is this yours?" he asked as they were walking back to the shade of the trees.
"As a matter of fact, it is. You can put it down here," she said. She sat back down on the sand and proceeded to open the luggage. Andy went back to his loot and looked around to see if there is anything he could use to break open some of the coconuts.
He went to the rocky part of the island and picked up some rocks, small and big. He also picked up a rock that seemed to be sharp along the edges. When he went back, he tore a long piece of fabric from his shirt and used it to tightly tie the rock on a thick wood he found lying on the ground. He made an improvised hand-held ax.
Meanwhile, Princess An was rummaging on the luggage she managed to salvage. There were dresses and clothes. A backup makeup kit was also in there. She put on the flip-flops that were there as well. She looked over to where the guy was before she removed her wet undergarments. She put on a fresh pair of underwear and slipped into a comfortable maxi dress. It may have been long but it was still a bit revealing on the upper body. She didn't even bother to wear a bra.
She sat back down comfortably as if on a vacation. For someone who's trapped and stuck on an island indefinitely, she looked calm and collected. It may have been because she really needed a break from the bright lights and the fast-paced life of an actress in her prime, or it was also possible that her situation hasn't really sunken in within her mind.
She took out a lighter from her purse and a stick of cigarette from a leather case. She lit it up and blew up smokes in the air as she watched the waves hug the shore.
"Oh thank God. You're dressed. And you're smoking." Andy said peevishly as he approached from behind.
"Oh lighten up, will you. We're going to die here for all we know." she snapped back.
"Don't say that. We're not dying here. Here, you may have been dehydrated." he said as he reached over her to hand her a half shell of coconut which was filled with coconut water.
She took the half shell and drank from it. She nearly finished all of it.
"Slow down, you can eat the coconut meat too," he said.
"What meat? This white thingy? You call that coconut meat?" she asked while poking on the white meat stuck on the wall of the shell.
"Ahm yes, that's what we call that," he said as he sat a few meters away from her.
"Say, is there anything useful in there?"
"Hmm ... let's see," she said and went on to go through the things stuffed in the luggage.
"I have my makeup kit, some dresses, a pair of stilettos, and a small vanity kit. There's a thin blanket and a towel. Yeah, they are very useful. At least to me."
"Great, you have a lighter too. We can use a bonfire around here."
Princess An tossed the lighter over to Andy.
"Give it back to me okay."
Princess An then looked over to the guy sipping coconut water from the shell. She thought that he looked pretty innocent and he does not really look like a bad guy. She guessed that it wouldn't be that bad to trust him a little bit more since there's only two of them on the whole island better to be working together.
"Hey, what's your name?" she asked.
"Andrew. My Mary and my friends call me Andy." he replied.
"Wait. Your Mary? So you're married?" she inquired.
"I hoped to be. Someday. What about you? What's your name?"
"Princess An." she said.
"Beautiful name." he remarked.
She was waiting for a big reaction but she didn't receive any.
"Wait that's it?" she shot him with a sharp glance.
"What do you mean?"
Princess An crawled over to him to see him face to face. He was taken aback and gently moved his head away from him.
"You seriously don't know who I am?" she asked while blinking her eyes. "You really are from the boonies," she said and retreated to her corner under the shade.
"I'm sorry, but do I know you?" he politely asked.
"Never mind."she snapped.
