Tom and Jess sat at the bar and ordered drinks for themselves. Each of them took a glass and they looked at each other and smiled as their glasses clanked together in a toast. Just as the glasses made contact, the lights went out in the whole ship. Tom sought Jessie's hand and kept calm together as the murmuring of the crowd rang throughout the dining hall.

Although a bit confused, the pair and almost everyone inside the ship didn't panic, they didn't even move. They were just calmly waiting for the power to be restored. And a spotlight then was shone on the second floor of the hall and on top of the stairs. It revealed an old balding man seated in a wheelchair. Everyone's attention was effectively gathered towards him.

Dim lights around the dining hall were then lighted. The PA sounded instructing everyone to get back to their seats. Tom and Jessie abided by the command along with many others. They got back to their seats and the voice continued.

The old man started to speak from a microphone on his chest and it was connected to the ship's sound system. The sound was clear and crisp but his voice was weak, sickly, and menacing.

"Ladies and gentlemen, children, I thank you all for coming here."

"Finally, it is now getting interesting," Ben observed.

Calvin just nodded while he drank water from his glass.

"I gathered all of you here today just to welcome you to the family and bid farewell to you all." the man continued.

"You may not know me but I know all of you. My name is Ernest John Vandelbirt."

"Wait a minute, that name sounds familiar."

Calvin was nodding while he was looking at the screen of his phone. Ben looked over and saw that he was looking at their speaker's profile. Apparently, he was a doctor who made his money in the field of genetics. He's quite famous and has a multi-billion dollar net worth.

"Well, he's evidently loaded. If he was able to host a party of this caliber I wouldn't be surprised that he's filthy rich." Tom added.

"You may have a lot of questions and let me provide one answer for starters. I implore everyone to reach the bottom of their chair and get the envelope taped under it. You may take out the paper inside it and you'll realize what everything means when you read it." the old man commanded.

The bunch slowly reached toward the bottom of their chairs, took the said envelopes, and started to read the paper that was inside the envelope.

"What in the hell is this? Are you f**king kidding me? What kind of sick joke is this?" Ben erupted.

Tom was shocked. His face couldn't decide what to portray. His eyes widened, his jaw fell down, and he was caught in the middle of laughter. It was truly a terrifying face that he made, horror is evident in his features.

Jessie immediately fell apart and couldn't hold back her tears.

"This is just a sick joke, right? This isn't true, Jess. Jessie? This isn't true." Tom tried to console her. He placed his hand on her shoulder but she instinctively shrugged it off.

"I... I'm sorry Tom." Jessie said as she was crying "I didn't mean to..."

Their eyes met and for the first time in forever, looking at her deep blue eyes didn't make Tom happy. It didn't make him feel at home, he felt sick as he looked at them and his stomach turned. He tried to keep it down but he gagged and vomited at one side of the table.

"Fortunately or unfortunately for some of you, what you are reading is true and irrefutable facts. You may conduct your own tests afterward and you can afford to with the fortune that I will be leaving for all of you. It might not be enough restitution for what damage I have caused in your life, but I hope that you will use it as you deem fit."

The paper that tore down everything Tom and Jessie built was nothing but a DNA test proving that they aren't only related, they are half-brothers and their biological father is this lunatic in a wheelchair.

Every single guest inside the ship is their half-sibling.

Alright, I got to admit, what a twist that was right? Who saw that coming? Be honest. Lol. Anyway, this story was written with a documentary as an inspiration.

A couple of days ago, I watched Our Father on Netflix and I have to say, that's one sick mothereffer. A doctor impregnated more or less 100 women in an area without the women's knowledge. It was just sickening and fascinating at the same time.

Imagine walking around a city and you don't know if the person you are interacting with is your half sister or your half brother. That's really traumatising for people.

Wew.
