When was the last time you have breathed fresh air? When was the last time you looked up at the night skies and saw the beautiful stars? When was the last time you were able to drink fresh water from a stream?
Now.
When was the last time you heard about a wildfire? When was the last time you saw a flood? When was the last time you perspired from extreme heat? When was the last time you've seen super typhoons?
I have a problem. You have a problem. WE all have a problem. And it's bigger than any of us. Unfortunately, it's even bigger than COVID. The Earth is dying, and it is us that is killing it.
Climate change is real. Its reality is not even an issue. We all know that it is. We all feel its existence. And we all know that it is worsening.
Global warming is not knocking on Earth's door. It is already inside our atmosphere, and if we could not turn things around in time. Global warming will cease all lives on our planet.
Scientists speculate that we have at most, 10 years, to fight back against climate change and global warming. If we compare it to Earth's age, it may seem like a blip in its lifespan, but for us, human beings, that is a lot of time to contribute to the solution or to the problem. Where we would contribute, the choice is ours.
Of course, the task at hand may seem unattainable, daunting, and impossible, but fret not, because you are not alone. 7.7 billion people out there should also be held accountable and be responsible for the Earth's well-being and sustainability.
True, it is the big companies and the huge industries that could make a substantial impact on the recovery of the Earth, but as common individuals, we also have the power to start the change and to contribute to the ripple effect in salvaging Earth.
I also asked myself what can I do to save the Earth. I am only a human being with needs, with wants, and am just trying to get by. What can I do?
Well, for starters, I should really accept that I am part of the problem and that I want to change.
You can search around the internet for ways to help save the Earth and you'll see that the most popular contribution is to lessen your carbon footprint. Everything we do, ONLINE and in real life, we emit carbon gasses that contributes to global warming. There's just too little that we can do about that.
We can't not use electricity, we can't not buy purified water, and we can't not abandon the use of petrol all at once. But we can take a single step in trying. If all of us take a single step, that is 7.7 billion steps taken and is surely a big accomplishment as it is.
There are some little ways we can do to help with the salvation of the Earth. If you are going to the grocery, for example, a simple gesture of opting to use a reusable eco-bag instead of plastics can be a start.
Cutting back on your meat consumption can also be a way to do it. Supporting brands that support "green initiatives" can also be a thing. I'm talking about "green" as in environmentally friendly and not the "green" that you are used to reading from me. Yep, I'm green-minded, through and through. :D
You may be thinking, "who's this guy to talk about massive things as climate change?", well, I am nobody. I am just a part of the problem, and I want to be a part of the solution.
Don't take it from me though, take it from Barrack Obama, from Pope Francis, from BlackPink, or even from Spongebob:
Influential figures came together to spread awareness about how serious our problem is and to offer us some kind of hope going forward.
I hope that you watch the video and take it as a personal message, from the Earth, to you.
Hi there!
Have you seen the video? I am imploring you to watch it. I really hope you do. It's okay even if you just skip most parts, but I wish that you watch enough of it to get the message they are trying to convey.
Truth be told, I just clicked on that video because I saw BlackPink in it, but then I stayed because it tugged into my humanity. I had goosebumps watching it. I was in tears for some parts of it. Man, it's more intense than any action or drama movie, because this is real life.
Anyhow, I really appreciate you being here, and I hope that we could take a step together in the right direction.
Tell you what, let's make this into an entry to our #promptfactory. Let's just call it "Dear Earth". It's just a simple one, here's how it goes:
Write an open letter addressed to Earth.
The Earth is alive, it can hear us, it can feel us. If there's anything you want to say to it, put it all in the letter. Say your sorry, make a promise, express your gratitude, let everything out in the open letter.
Waiting for your entry.
