A House is Not a Home
The whole family had been cursed since they moved to a new house. The new house was supposed to signify their progress, their success, and the realization of their dreams.
They moved to the new house to be closer to the kids' new school, a private one. It was a prestigious school that send almost all of its students to ivy league schools. They boast the highest percentage of students making it to Harvard than any other middle school.
The move was also a strategic business decision since they were trying to expand their restaurant.
The house was nothing short of a mansion. It has all the requirement of being the front page of a real estate magazine.
It sits well in a gated community where other prominent people keep their residences. The community was complete with all the necessities and the luxuries that the families living inside would ever imagine to need.
Everything was looking up for the family until they moved into the new house.
It was just too big for them. The halls were too long and the rooms too big. They used to leave in a 3-bedroom cosy house wherein they could see each other most of the time. They would pass by people watching TV in the living room when they go to the kitchen to drink some water because the rooms are next to each other. They were only separated by some thin walls or counter.
It may have been them just adjusting to the new house but the eerie and creepy silence that drowns the hallways even in the mornings could send chills towards anybody's spine.
The voices that could be heard inside the walls late at night also didn't help with that. If you would press your ear against the wall, your can clearly hear the sounds they were trying to create.
The bonus horror points of the house wasn't the end of it. It was just the beginning of their true nightmares.
The kids got into fights in their new school because they weren't like the kids that go there. The business of the family took a hit and they could barely afford to live in the house. Their elder fell sick. And their pet dog died suddenly. He was healthy and bright and just drop dead one day.
Considering everything and their financial status in that moment, they decided to move back to their old house even if it meant that they were going to face setback with their lives.
They did so and as they settlee back in their home, they could notice that things turn to positive again. No one ever said it but everyone shared the same sentiment. It may not be a mansion, it may not be an enormous house, but the most important thing is, it's some place that all of them could call home, cause they all feel at home.
Hey there!!!
This is a freewriting article that I came up with the help of my buddy The Most Dangerous Writing App. And the prompt that it gave me was this:
I really don't know what story to do so I just shot this one up in the air. Also, this was inspired by a show I was watching earlier. Anyway, that's it for me and I'm really dozing off.
But before I sleep, I just wanted to ask for your opinion on how I did with this one. Of course I know that there are some errors here and there, maybe more but you know how I do with typing on cellphones, I suck, big time.
And oh yeah, this story reminded me of a local saying that goes:
Aanhin mo ang bahay na bato...
Kung ang nakatira naman ay kwago...
In direct translation, it goes like:
What's the use of a stone house...
If the one's living there is an owl...
I don't know if I discussed this one already but what do you think is the interpretation of this one? You can include this in your article if you want. :)
Thank you for visiting again and you're welcome to try this one too.
Until we read again...
Sweet Dreams!!!
