sound, song, tone, tune, melody-- music.
4 days ago, the professor has given me this simple assignment which is to write an essay about music. As I have said, this one is really simple but it took me quite a while before I even began to write this since I don't know much about music and I just don't know where to start. Good thing, the professor didn't set a due date, what a considerate professor eh? Another good thing, this is free writing so I guess I'll just let all the thoughts flow as I write this one. Let's just see how it goes.
Music
The first thing that ring to my mind when I heard the word music are those in the title above. Sound, song, tone, tune, and melody. Those are the things that I can associate with music but the thing that I am familiar with the most is the song.
"When you're happy you enjoy the music, but when you're sad you understand the lyrics. -Frank Ocean". I've read this quote somewhere and this is just so true. Don't believe me though, I haven't experienced that yet but what I did experience is to mean every single lyrics whenever I was singing a worship song.
Jumping to another topic but still in relation to this, music is kind of one of the reasons why I have such a low self confidence back then sing and dance are the only talents that I know of. I don't have a good voice, I don't know how to play any instruments and I also can't dance. Somehow, that made me think that I am not talented at all. I still think that way until now but I am already well aware that talent isn't limited to singing or dancing. Hehe
Going back, I don't really have a confidence in singing but I can remember a few times, actually just 2 times wherein I managed to sing on a videoke. LOL. First was when I was still a kid singing my heart out as I sing "Narda" (Ding, ang bato!). Second time was on @carisdaneym2's 18th birthday wherein I kind of disturbed their neighborhood when I sang "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Geez. This is embarrassing. Haha
Another one is a requirement at school. I was still on Elementary back then and the use of google is still not rampant back then. So it was my older brother who wrote the lyrics of the song on a paper back then and he was also the one who taught me about its tone. And that was it. I really don't like singing and I just don't have the confident to do so. But later on, I was reminded that singing is part of praise and worship to God and it is not about our voice but our hearts so yeah, you might not hear me sing on a karaoke or something but if it is for worship, I'll sing my heart out with arms lifted high.
The musicians
I might not be good at music and I also don't have the ears for it but I really have huge admirations to musicians may it be singer, composer and those who plays musical instruments.
Those singers are just so good in the ears (sana all) and I love how composers tells us a story through the song that they wrote. I like how they are relying the message that they want others to hear through the lyrics, tone, and all the elements they need just to build that song.
Lastly, I just really think that those people who can play musical instruments are just so cool. I have a soft spot to those who play guitar and I really think that those who plays drums are really cool. That's also the instrument that I want to learn how to play. Hehe
Music as communication
Last point for this writing, I also think that music plays a great role in communication. Especially in communicating our hidden emotions that we can't express through words.
Music communicate our feelings, our thoughts, our beliefs, our stand. It speaks for what we cannot say and sometimes, songs can even became our company both on our great and dark times.
Music is always there. Music is everywhere. And I am loving music day by day. Music is a great companion. Music is something I can't live without. May you be able to use music to release the sound of your heart. (ano connect? haha)
Music is beautiful, and so as you.
Ending this with Psalm 139:14 "you are fearfully and wonderfully made."
:)
hey prof @meitanteikudo, there you go. I just sing it. Hehe. You know, I'm still disoriented as I wrote this but I hope this will reach the passing grade. Hmm
