Were back to misty mornings and the hill overlooking my balcony is almost completely obscured by low hanging mist that seem to merge with the clouds. There is a chill in the air even though the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius. The ground is still wet with overnight drizzles and a few puddles dot the roads and paths. Spider suspension. I've had this spider right at the entrance of the balcony for a couple of weeks now. It usually weaves it's web at a low level height and I end up walking into it or clearing it up to access the balcony. It seems to be an intelligent fellow. It changed tactics and has now weaved it's web at a higher level. You have to strain hard to see the web, and it looks like the spider is suspended midair! Will the sun win today. After struggling to penetrate through the thick cloud cover and the haze, this morning the sun seems to be on a winning track. Even though the cloud cover persisted, the sun managed to throw out its warmth and also was clearly delineated as a ball of fire early in the morning. The chances of rains are low today andnit looks like the warmth of the sun will win today - but you never know what surprise is in store!!

Caught this pretty looking spider sitting happily in it's web. A closer look revealed some intricate patterns in both the spider and the web. An even closer look showed that this had caught it's prey - an insect - and was getting ready to devour it. So this is a pretty dangerous spider!

It's a flaming sunrise. The sun is just starting to rise behind the hill and, instead of the usual ball of fire, it looks like a flame of fire 🔥 shaped like a tongue. There's a bit of haze in the morning, so it's doesn't look brilliantly bright as yet.

Hazy morning and the sun lazily managed to climb over the hill and peak into my balcony. The first photo is suspenseful - just the beautifully eerie gow before the sun decides to climb over the hill. In the second one, the sun looks like a flame and, finally, it lifts itself over the hill and becomes a ball of fire. Interesting and varied observations within 30 minutes. I wish I had taken a timelapse.

Three hour solo drive. We were meeting with cousins. My wife and kids took a cab yesterday. I joined them today. It's a 3 hour drive and, unfortunately, the highway was in bad shape after the rains in November. It was full of potholes and there were many detours to service lanes due to roadworks being done. I love this flower (?hibiscus) for how beautiful it is. There are layers that are so prettily arranged and shades of pink and red. With the evening sun falling on it, it was quite a sight to behold. The colors seen in flowers are unmatched!

Dosa is a very popular dish for breakfast or dinner in South India. We went out to a restaurant and some of us had dosa. Although we make it at home, the restaurants offer a lovely variety of dosa ... and they make it look interesting too. One was presented as a cone and another as a folded triangle. And yes.... they tasted as good as they looked!

The cosmos flower has a brilliant shade of orange and beautifully arranged petals that make it richly beautiful. The center is very intricate and the lines on the petal add a little symmetry to the overall design. It's beautiful to see it dancing in a light breeze in the garden.

Even a lone flower on the wayside blooms with all its beauty wholeheartedly. Most people would never notice this small plant with a single flower. I had to stop the car to close a gate and noticed it. It's predominantly a shade of white but has a lovely splash of color. It's the only flower for quite a distance. But it's doing a great job adding a touch of beauty and positivity on the roadside.

A surprise beach visit. Late into the morning, we decided to take the kids to the beach. It's about a five-minute drive away. We were a little surprised as the tide was higher than we expected with the waves almost coming all the way in. We played with a kite and took a long stroll. The weather was perfect - that was a morning well spent.

After the obscured sunset yesterday, I managed to find a spot to look at the sun setting between the two buildings. It seemed like a tight fit though!! It made for an interesting spectacle - watching the sun wedged between these two tall buildings and slowly wiggling down as it set.

A single flower standing on a slender stem alone on the side of the dirt path to my cousin's house. It caught my attention with its bright pink color which was distinctly different from the patches of green and brown around it. It looked fresh as it's been raining on and off. Nature has patches of brilliance in every nook and corner!

It's back to being bright and sunny finally. The warmth of the sun is great to feel. The sky is not completely blue as yet, but there is enough blue beneath a veil of clouds. Our church is beyond the city outskirts and the fresh green surrounding with a small hillock is a great sight. The tree branch in the corner adds a beautiful touch to the weather shot - symbolising the shade needed on a hot day.

White flowers never cease to amaze me. This one had fecks of pollen on the petals. It's amazing - the amount of action that happens in the brief time a flower stays alive. The way the bud blooms into a flower, the way the petals form and the centre becomes complicated. And the pollen on it is what sustains the species.

After the warm and sunny day yesterday, we were expecting it to continue to be warm. I was a little surprised as we had a 30 minute spell of heavy rain at 6.30 am! The rest of the day started cloudy, but quickly cleared up. Such unpredictable weather!! The brief rain ensured that lots of water droplets got on to the plants. Caught these pretty droplets on a bud and another water drop splayed between the corner of a leaf. Mesmerizing!!

Another fascinating hibiscus flower in my cousin's garden. The petals of the hibiscus are more robust than the petals of a lot of flowers, but they still sport a delicate look with the textures and designs. The best part is the central core that projects out and hangs beautifully when the flower hangs on to the stem. The intricate tip is awesome as it gently sways in the breeze - the true beauty of flowers!! #flower #hibiscus

The weekend was sunny and nice. But the week seems to be headed for cloudier days. Yesterday we had early morning showers that made it cloudy and today there's a thick hazy mist covering the hill outside my balcony. Wonder how the day will pan out - yesterday was warm with a sprinkling of clouds after the morning clouds slowly disappeared. The first photo is today's and the second one was taken yesterday. This plant looked very ordinary from a distance, but when I looked closer there were two beautiful flower colors hidden beneath the green leaves. One was a purple flower and the other was white. They had a very interesting shape and one prominent petal. Flowers have the nicest surprises for us! Just look out for them!!

Christmas tree crumbs! Our Christmas tree is 11 years old (it's the usual artificial tree). It still stands and looks good when fully decorated. The problem is that the 'fur' leaves tend to shed quite a bit. These are small and usually adorn the floor of the home when were don't with it. We cleaned it up, but after putting on the lights and some ornaments - there it is, shedding again!! I actually think it looks pretty on the floor!!

Monsooned Malabar is the new coffee I am trying out now. It's a little different from the usual Arabica and Robusta I have. It's supposed to have more flavour. Let me brew it and see what I get out of it! Coffee beans come in such a variety of types, roasts (both intensity and method of roasting) that it's sometimes difficult to choose which type to get!!

Which side would you take? The skies have started clearing up again. Today there were clouds on one side (the right side) while the skies on the left side was clear. Are dried fruits healthy? I visited this fruits and nuts shop which had a variety of dried fruits like guava, mango, kiwi, orange. I bought a variety pack for my workplace - it wasn't cheap and cost about 10$ for a small pack. I thought it would be a good snack to distribute in the workplace. It's sweetened - so I don't think it is as healthy as it sounds!!

This is called "crown of thorns" or Euphorbia flower (I googled to find it out). Its unique in that it has two petals in each flower unlike other flowers that have more petals. What caught my attention today was the center of the flower. There is a silverish, thread-like coating on it that adds a reflective touch to the flower. I wonder what this is. After my rose plant died a few months ago, I finally managed to find time to drop into a nursery and purchase a new plant. It had a couple of buds and one of them started opening up this morning. I hope this one survives as long as the previous one. My mom loves it and, for someone who is largely housebound, enjoys looking after it. Do you have any tips on how to look after a rose plant?

Cupcakes on the dashboard. Yup, it's a weird place to keep cupcakes. At church today, we had a baby dedication and the family gave all of us cupcakes and coffee after the service was over. My bright son decided to keep them on the dashboard where they looked pretty. Needless to say, they didn't stay there when we started the drive back and we had to hold them in our hands. The dashboard is not a safe place to keep stuff!

Our residential campus got lit with Christmas lights this weekend as we had the Christmas program on Saturday. It helped create a very festive mood over the weekend. The Rose plant I'd bought last week already had a couple of buds. Yesterday it looked like one of them would bloom. Today it bloomed out it all its oretty glory early in the morning. This was the first thing that greeted me when I walked into the balcony today. It's a lovely shade of pink and had a very intricate center. There's another bud in the background and I hope it blooms too!

The day started with no haze in the air, but lots of cloud cover. The sun glowed behind the clouds but did not break out of the clouds. At 8.30 am there was a little burst of rain which made the morning cool and pleasant. It's now midday and the weather is still cool and pleasant. Good day to be at work.

This must be the millionth photograph of my table rose plant perched on my balcony. But every bud and every flower seems unique, even if some are the same color. I usually miss the fully bloomed flower as the bud waits to bloom before I leave home for work, but blooms fully only later in the morning. By the time I return from work, it has closed or shrivelled up. But it still brightens up my morning!

One of the things I love about Sundays is the long drive to Church which takes us out of the city and into rural landscapes. Dangerously beautiful. A closer look at one of my cacti showed me how pretty the spikes and thorns are. They are delicate, yet strong and can give you a nasty stab if you try to touch them - painful and unpleasant. But look at it from a respectable distance and you can enjoy the beauty.

I had a closer look at the rose bud on my plant and was amazed at the amount of fine detail on the bud and it's sepals. They look plain when you first see them, but peer at them closely, and more eye-catching details pop out. There seems to be a fine hair like covering on the sepals and even the underside of the buds. I wonder if these are protective in nature - from bugs and the cold that may damage it before it blooms out. Or is it to aid in dispersion later on. The…

It's definitely a fight between the sun and the clouds every morning. And the December haze adds a twisted touch to this battle. Today, the sun managed to throw out its beans through some holes in the cloud cover right at the start. Let's see where this duel goes later in the day. The birth of life is always fragile. This is a moneyplant (I don't know what it's real name is). It grows as a climber with leaves. Each leaf that sprouts out of the main plant is fragile and thin and then slowly unfurls and thickens. If something happens to it at this vulnerable stage, it comes out misshapen and may even not unfurl. Such is life isn't it - our younger days as babies are when we are the most fragile and need the most care.

Smoky and hazy. That seems to be the magic words for weather in December. For November, it was rainy. Today, there was a full mix of the combination of haze, clouds and added smoke - you can see it rising in front of the hill. The smoke is probably coming out of some wood cooking that is happening in a home or garbage burning. Some people burn rubbish early in the morning if it is chilly as a source of warmth.

Lately, I've been fascinated by at the close up appearance of cacti. This is in a small pot on my balcony and I've enjoyed looking at the symmetry, patterns and arrangement of the spikes and thorns on the cactus plant. It's quite pleasing to the eye - although it may be dangerous to touch!!

Coffee blooming is interesting to watch and I've posted it before. When freshly roasted coffee is ground and sunk in hot water to brew, carbon dioxide escapes and bubbles out when the beans get wet. It's an interesting phenomenon and it coincides with the release of the fresh aroma of coffee (not as intense as when you grind them). And of course, there's the anticipation of freshly brewed coffee about to be ready!

Almost twinning! These two roses are only a few days apart. The younger one just bloomed - the buds started opening up two days ago. The older flower has already reached full bloom and will probably shed it's petals today and start withering. Such is the cycle of life!!

Our Christmas tree is finally up and lit. We've kept it very simple and managed to carve out some space in one corner for it. This time, most of the setting up was done by the kids. The lights are white and I like it that way inside the house. The tree is about 10 years old!! Most of the decorations and the lights are also that old!!

The older flower in this photo is almost withering away. Its petals are starting to fall and the color is not as vibrant as a couple of days ago. I like how the new flower bud seems to be starting to blossom under the shadow of the bigger and older flower. It almost looks like the older flower is protecting the little bud as it prepares to bloom.

Everyone looks forward to the sun rising in the morning after a chilly night. Even this little table rose bud that is peeking at the sun and hoping it will break through the clouds and the haze as it raises itself over the hill in the horizon. Hazy glow. I love this part of the morning where the sun is still behind that hill, but its glow forms a kind of halo around the hill. Being a hazy, the halo looks a little murky, but the colors still show up. The December haze has so much variety and each morning is different! Today is Sunday and I'm going to enjoy the trip to church looking at the lush green fields andnioen spaces around our church. Let's see how different this will be!

A colorful plant - but will it survive? I bought this at a nursery a couple of weeks ago, but it is not thriving. It looks faded and, inspite of watering, is always droopy. I repotted it yesterday as the pot in which it was sold was a small one. The roots looked frailer and thinner than I had imagined. I have used some compost and hope the extra space will give the roots a chance to survive.

A pink rose has timeless beauty. This was a bud a couple of days ago and now it's a pretty, fully bloomed rose. The pink shade is considered very feminine, but even a guy like me finds it very attractive. I could stare at it for hours!

Even though December seems to be filled with haze, mist and clouds, afternoons are usually warm and the sky gets a chance to show touches of blue. This late afternoon shot shows much clearer weather - but nowhere as clear as summertime! The sun is on the other side and occasionally throws an orange hue to the sky later on.

The amazing variety in plant designs can blow your mind away! I saw this plant (apparently it is has the nickname swisscheese plant) which has very unique leaves. I saw it in my aunt's house and then bought one from a nursery a couple of weeks ago. The leaves have holes in the way they are designed and they look so freaky! The exact moment the sun peeps out from behind the hill is brilliant. It is not yet a bright ball of fire and the brightness is not intense. With the morning haze, the glow is a little subdued. All that is about to change in a few minutes when the clouds are not thick and the intensity of the sunrise becomes so much brighter. But for now, let me enjoy the hazy glow of the sun!

This plant lines one of our narrow paths in the campus garden. It's barely one foot tall and is a shrub - like plant with pink flowers. Because of the low height, the flowers are not easily noticeable, but today I bent down and had a closer look and, boy, were they pretty!! I don't think I'll get bored of staring at the sunrise on the hill every morning. The haze is still very evident and the blue is missing from the sky this morning. Even a weed can look pretty. This is the tip of a grassy weed that grows in the midst of grass lawns in our campus. I had a closer look and it looked really terrific - very symmetrical and some chiselled features to add a rough touch of beauty to it. Pretty doesn't mean good though and this can spread fast and choke any lawn!

Random red leaf on the concrete pathway. There were plenty of leaves in various shades and hues, but this one caught my attention. Shot on my Samsung M31S and edited a little to bring out the red color and designs on the leaf. It will probably fade and wither away overnight and be swept away tomorrow.

2 am at the railway station! I had to go to pick up my in-laws at the railway station today at 2 am. There's an almost romantic vibe at night in a railway station that is not crowded. There are still quite a few people walking around sleepily lugging their bags and the occasional announcement through the loudspeaker. There's a goods train and a single engine parked in the tracks and a few floodlights. Plenty of mosquitoes!!

Christmas isn't Christmas till your coffee joins in in the celebration. I found a coffee blend roast that promises to be a Christmas Blend. It's got a slightly Christmassy pouch and a description that is very Christmassy and promises Christmas flavours. I got pulled in hook, line and sinker for this one! My Christmas celebration just went up a notch after making this coffee this morning!!

Flowers from a plant in a recycled bottle. This purple plant gives out really pretty pinkish flowers. The best past is that my friend has grown it in plastic bottles that would have otherwise been dumped on the garbage. Even though the purple and pink add a monotonous touch to the photo, the colors stand out against the colorful wall of the pre school in the background. These bottles are hung from the wire fence around the preschool.

Pizza time - preChristmas As usual, I bought the base which is partly precooked and loaded it with toppings: pork sausages, chicken salami, panneer, tomato, capsicum, onions and a generous spread of mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce and pepper cheese. It took half an hour to load the toppings and under ten minutes in the oven. Kids pitched in and it was all fun!

1 hour apart The first shot is at 7 am and shows the hill having a halo-like glow from the sun that is completely behind it. The second shot is at 8 am when the sun has risen and is now a full ball of fire just above the hill silhouette. What a difference 1 hour can make. December also means that the sun seems to be lazy and is a little late to rise. I can't do that though - have to be at work by 8 am. Thankfully the ride to work is only 5 minutes. Stirred, not shaken. I'm not James Bond and so my coffee is not stylishly drunk at a bar but made by hand at the kitchen counter. And stirring it to mix the ground coffee beans with the hot water on the Aeropress is an important step in brewing some good coffee. The Aeropress comes with a funky looking stirrer for this. I wonder if it is better than a regular spoon!

Why are 9 volt batteries shaped different from the others? While all others are usually cylindrical, this one alone is cuboid shaped and not circular. It also has its contact points on one side with the ability to clamp into the holders in the toys or instruments they are meant to fix onto. What do you use 9 volt batteries for? My guitar has one as part of its pick up.

Christmas sunrise. This is past 8.30 and hence not actually sunrise. The sun is hiding behind a smear of clouds, but is visible enough to warm up the morning. The rest of the day has been sunny and it's been good. The early morning and late night chill are constant reminders that it's December!

Will my children take care of fish? I finally gave in to tei demands and bought them fish to look after. These are Betta fish (aka fighter fish) and I've putbthek in basic fish bowls to start off. They need very little care - feed them daily and change the water weekly. I hope they survive. Only time will tell us that!

Another glowing sunrise as the hill gets a halo effect from the sun that is lazily getting ready to rise up from behind it. I never get bored of this every morning. The glow effect has been prominent in December probably because of the light haze and the late sunrise - happens after 7 am.

Midday is when the sun easily beats the December haze and manages to add a touch of blue to the sky and warm up everything it touches. A drive to Church beyond the confines of the city makes this even more obvious. Miles of green and miles of blue and a hill in the horizon to top it all!

Infested flowers: These pretty flowers are doing their best to look pretty, but there is a sad reality behind the beauty. The table rose plant has a bad mealy bug infestation that I am not able to get rid of. So I'm not sure how long the plant will survive on my balcony. But it sure is steadfast - putting out prett flowers every day till it can't do it any longer.

A rough ride is often more beautiful that a smooth one. The final 1 km of the road to church is broken and not laid well. It's narrow. It's not the best for the car, but the fields and greenery on either side of this winding section makes it worth the drive. The blue skies add a touch of calm and peace to the rough road trip!

This is an interesting flower I saw on a roadside plant. Before it blooms, it has this interesting pattern as a design - almost looks like a mathematical shape! Once it fully blooms, it has 2 colors and the petals and florets are beautifully arranged to make it really pretty. It's apparently called lantana and is easy to grow. Maybe I'll keep one in my balcony!

Goodbye Christmas lights. All the beautiful Christmas lights in campus will slowly be taken away this week as we get past Christmas and New Year. This light adorns the entrance. A bit of it on one of the points of the star is already not working. But it looks pretty. Next week it will be gone!! Goodbye Christmas.

Just when we thought that the December haze and mist were lifting away, this hit us this morning - complete mist covering the hill and a thick haze with no sign of the sun anywhere. December refuses to give up it's quest for mist and this seems to be a late surge to try and seal it's stamp of haze on us!

Yummy! We went out for a short drive in the city last night and dropped into this new bakery to pick up some goodies. As you can see it's a very tempting place and easy to fall for the variety. I also had some cold coffee to top off my dessert (a lemon tart) and we all came home with a full tummy and on a sugar high!

After the super misty early morning that we had, this is how the sun looked after it climbed over the hill into the sky. This was at around 8 am and it looked eerie as the thick mist blurred out the sun and diffused the sunlight coming out. I'll post more about the day later tonight. After this chilly, misty morning it fortunately warmed up a bit later in the morning.

Train vibes at midnight. We had to drop my in-laws off at the railway station at midnight and the train was half an hour late. So we spent quite a bit of time at the platform in the railway station. It was a bit sleepy with much less people than usual at midnight - but not empty. Another confused sunrise. Should it be hazy or should it be clear? Should the clouds cover the sun or should the blue sky be given a chance? Should the glow of the sun be bright or should the mist subdue it? So many questions that come out of a peek into the morning dawn from my balcony. Are two petals enough for a flower? The crown of thorns plant seem to think it's enough and is it right!!! Even with 2 simple petals and annl interesting centre of golden yellow/orange with a silver glimmer, the flower of the plant lifts the beauty of the plant to new heights. The leaves and the thorny stem makenit even more pretty! Do you think 2 petals are enough?

Sunrise today and the sun already had a chance to show off - giving us a glimpse of its brilliance. The early morning sunrise saw the sun as a circular, perfectly round glow that was playing hide and seek with the clouds. There's quite a bit of cloud cover - so let's see what the rest of the day holds.

You could easily walk past this and miss this pretty flower. We did a short trek up a small hill and there were many such flowers in the wayside growing near rocks and within thorny shrubs. A closer look revealed so much of beauty in these flowers. They were really tiny and I struggled to capture it on my Samsung M31S.

The sun throws it's rays from behind the hill today to try and warm up the earth. And it's almost succeeding. There are patches of clear sky on top and the clouds are a little thinner than on previous days. Yesterday saw a slightly warmer day and today may be the same. Perfect for some outdoor activity?

The other side of the hill: This small hill is 20 minutes away and is a short 20 minute climb with just one steep section. It's not very high but the views are lovely. It's a rocky top and when we look to the side away from the city, the amount of greenery is very eye-pleasing. And the hills in the horizon add a beautiful touch even if they appear hazy!

I'm amazed at how noise members manage to shoot insects from close, even as macro shots. During our hill trek yesterday there were plenty of dragonflies and I couldn't capture even one on my phone properly. If I got close, they flew away. Can you spot the dragonfly on this rocky surface? I liked the shade of color it was, but could barely capture it in the few seconds I got close to it!!

Ominous clouds gathering on top now! I really thought that the sun would win the battle, but the weather had other ideas. I could also feel a few drops of rain. We made a visit to the science museum in the morning and thankfully the weather was great at that time and the kids enjoyed it.

Another wayside flower, may even be a weed, that looks stunning. The leaves of this plant look like they are designed for self protection and could leave you with a nasty sting. The flower blooms beautifully as it nestles protected in the midst of this. Beautiful shade of yellow at ground level that caught my attention when I was walking to the store.

The bottomless well - visit to the Science Museum. This was one of the interesting exhibits at the science museum. A system of carefully placed glass and mirror in a short model of a well makes it look like the well is actually bottomless thanks to some physics of reflections and other principles. It's a bit scary to look into it, but the kids just loved it!!

We went on a little hill trek yesterday. 4 kids (my son, his friends and my daughter) and just me as an adult! Saw beautiful sprawling landscapes below us with lots of rolling hills in the horizon. It was a pleasant cloudy day and that made the climb much easierz even though we were all sweating at the end of the climb!!

City from a hill: After the mini trek up the hill, this is the view of the city and its outskirts that is visible. This is not a big hill - just a 20 minute climb to get to the top, but the fight between concrete and green is quite evident. I have to get a photo from the past and see how much of greenery is getting replaced every decade. Anyway, the view was very beautiful and relaxing.

After overnight rains that were intermittent, it wasn't surprising that I woke up to cloudy skies with the sun struggling to wake me up in the morning. There was a very light drizzle in the morning - there were no raindrops, but more like rain droplets swirling in the air andbslowly falling. The mountain appeared dull outside.

I'm just curious..... Will noise get flooded with 1000s of New Year wishes starting in a few hours and a large percentage of the posts will pertain to wishing everyone for the New Year 2022?
