I had a closer look at the rose bud on my plant and was amazed at the amount of fine detail on the bud and it's sepals. They look plain when you first see them, but peer at them closely, and more eye-catching details pop out. There seems to be a fine hair like covering on the sepals and even the underside of the buds. I wonder if these are protective in nature - from bugs and the cold that may damage it before it blooms out. Or is it to aid in dispersion later on. The texture us very fine and not prickly. Very pretty! It's difficult to capture on my phone, but here is a closer pic.
