My First Job Experience
March 29, 2022 ( Tuesday )
Hello, hello readcash citizens all over the world. How is your day going? I hope everyone is happy and productive this day.
Just this morning, I have read sis @Chelle18 's article about her husband who got scammed by his recruiter. After reading, I remember my first job experience. It happened similarly like her husband's experienced. Today, I will share again another life experiences of mine hoping that it can give lessons to my readers or maybe some of you can also relate to this one.
After I graduated high school, I really wanted to pursue college. I was envious of some of my classmates who were sharing where they would study or what university they would enroll. Every time they would ask me if I will continue my college education, I just give them a-not-sure answer. I was really not certain about my life after my high school life phase ended. My mother told me that I should work as a housemaid because that's the most common job for a high school graduate only. In the back of my mind, I told myself that I won't be like that. I want to finish college and have a degree. But how can I do that? My parents (considered parents) cannot support me because we belong in an less fortunate class of living. My father was a trisikad driver or pedicab driver while my mother was an on call laundry woman in one of our neighbors. My biological father, on the other hand, told me that he can't also send me to college because his wife's daughter was also studying at that time. Yes, he prioritizes his not own child. Also, he wanted my brother to study college first. He reasoned out that my brother is a man and he would be the one to support his family. I begged him but it was no use.
Month of May came. Two months after our graduation. My cousin's high school classmate which is her close friend too, visited our home. One of the reasons why she visited was because she asked my cousin's help to find someone who wants to work. They had a store in Tacloban City and they are looking for a saleslady. Without second thought, I volunteer myself. Being a saleslady is way better than a housemaid for me. (that's what I thought) I was so thin before and I was thinking that if I'm going to be a housemaid, I don't know if I can be able to survive all the house works. Not like being a saleslady, the work will be just light and easy. So, I told my cousin that I am willing to work.
My cousin's classmate accepted me and she told me that I will go there in Tacloban together with her two recruits which were also from their barangay. Good thing that I knew those two because we came from the same school. They were just ahead of me for two years. The day came that the three of us went to our workplace. One of our companion already knew the exact address since he was able to go there once. I was expecting that it would be a big store since the owner was looking for three employees. But when we came there, I was so disappointed for the store was just way far from what I imagined. It was store that sells pirated movies, porn cd's or DVD's and other things. I was also confused because when we came there, they already have 2 saleslady working. The store was not big so why would they need more workers?
My cousin's classmate welcomed us and introduced us to her husband, who was a Belgian and the owner of the store. After the introduction, my two companions were left at the store while me, I was brought to their apartment. My cousin's classmate instructed me about what would be my real work. She told me that I will not work at the store instead I will be the one who will accompany her husband wherever he goes for the reason that she will leave to Manila to take care their other business there. I was disheartened of what I heard. She told my cousin that I will work at their store but why am I here? I had no choice so I just followed. The next morning, the wife flew to Manila, so me and the Belgian left in the house. I had a sense that the Belgian is not a good person but I just shoved it off. My first day was fine. We went to the store and brought the workers some viand and snacks.
The next day, the Belgian told me that I should not lock my bedroom door at night. I asked him why but he didn't answer. I was already afraid of what might happen to me. If he will do crazy ideas, I can't fight him for he was so big and I was just a tiny girl. I did not sleep until morning that night. Again, we visited at their store. Then, I heard one of the old employee and the Belgian having a dirty talks. After that, the Belgian told me that I will sleep in the store that night. Judy, the old employee, stayed the night with him in their apartment. I had learned that they had a secret relationship.
Weeks after, there came another three recruit employees. Two of them were my sister and childhood friend. They were also being promised to work in the store. But when they came there, they were told that they were being referred to the friend of the Belgian. They did not accept what the Belgian told them. The Belgian got angry. He said that Filipinos are picky when it comes to work. He fired them even though they weren't started yet. I decided to quit also. I did not like my work. There were no enough food and water. If we took our bath, we have to fetch water on the deep well and I already have itches on my body because the water were not clean.
I went home, together with my sister and childhood friend on that very day. Though it was almost dark already, we opted to get out of that place. That was not a good experience of us. That was also our first time to travel far and we are not familiar with the place too. We reached at Maasin midnight, so there were no available vehicle headed to our town. Because of that, we slept at the terminal and waited for the first trip.
Life was never easy for me. My first job experience was not good but it didn't stopped me to find another one. After that experience, I went to Cebu to find my luck. I put aside my dream to finish college for the meantime. But I promised myself that if I have a chance to study, I will do my best to achieve that dream. And here I am now. I finally got my diploma and fulfilled my dream.
To you, who are reading this, never stop dreaming. Time will come that there will be a door that will open for you. Never quit and surrender your dream. Success is sweet when it comes from hardwork and perseverance.
