Having The Right Attitude At All Time
Our encounter with people on daily basis exposes us to different traits and behaviors. At times, it could be bad, good or mixed. How well we response to each behavior is what determines our own conduct.
Before I go into our topic today, I want to take a moment just to celebrate all the fathers in this platform. Infact, I celebrate all the men today, it is not easy doing the things you all do, from protecting your family members to fending for them. You all are amazing.
Aristotle the great philosopher once said " man is a social animal" which confirms the fact that no man can exist alone or in solitude. We will always require the association of others, directly or indirectly. Even when we don't want to talk to anyone, we will always want to purchase a product or service, in an attempt to carry this out, we tend to interact with people. What keeps an interaction/relationship going is attitude, having the right attitude will go a long way in giving us a long lasting relationship.
What is an Attitude?
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary attitude is defined a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior.
The bible says 'As a man thinketh, so is he". This means that if a man thinks evil always, he will have a bad attitude while a man that thinks of doing good will tend to have a good attitude
Life itself is a test of one's attitude, what others consider impossible, with the right attitude it could be done.
Attitude is divided into positive and negative behavior.
What Influences Our Attitude.
They are a lot of factors that could affect, change or modify once attitude. No one was born with a bad or good attitude, they were learn over time. That is why attitude could be changed within the twinkle of an eye.
1) Peer Group : This refers to the friends We keep. This factor mostly affects teenagers, negatively or positively. Let's assume, Paul visit his friend John and gets to listen to the way, John abuses people at any slightest provocation, if Paul isn't disciplined , with time he might start behaving like john. This concept is found to be a serious issues with teenagers, who can't make decisions for themselves, and so are easily waved in.
2) Society : Man earlier refered to as a social animal requires the society to function effectively. Therefore a broken or corrupt society has an effect on man. If he grows up in a society where the men has no regards for women, he is bound to adapt to such attitude. The society is very vital as he interacts here and any slight change will alter his behavior.
3) Family : A child first learns the basic of life from his family. If he is born into a broken home with a deteriorating attitude, such a child will grow with such an attitude. But if he grows up in a peaceful and loving home, not exposed to any abuse, his attitude will always differ from the one from a broken home.
4) Past Records : Most times our past has major part to play in our behavior. A lady trying to get off a broken heart, will tend to be rude or aggressive to the male counterpart, especially those who make advances at her. I still recall after I broke up with my ex, I felt like walking with a gun in my handbag, so anyone who touches or talk to me will get shot but that was just an attitude developed due to a past broken relationship. Other instances include rape cases and being scammed. Such instances could trigger a modified attitude from us.
5) Others : Let's assume we are at the bank and the customer Care attendant is very sluggish or rude and we were late for an appointment, there is a tendency of a change in attitude for that particular moment.
How To Maintain A positive Attitude
" People may hear your words, but they feel your attitude "
The above quote was said by John C. Maxwell, which implies that the number of people we meet on daily basis, are not concerned about what we say but are more interested in our behavior.
Does what we say tell about our Attitude ?
Of course yes, the more vulgar or violent words or statement we make, have a negative effect on us. That is why, I do advice parent to monitor the type of conversation their childeren listen to or make, because if they are not having a healthy conversation, the tend to behave otherwise, Having an hostile and aggressive behavior.
Here are certain things we need to do, to maintain a positive attitude;
1) Be with Positive Minded People : Having friends that Have positive attitude is a great toss when it comes to developing a positive attitude. Being around negative people will only get you into more trouble, because you have nothing to learn than adopting thier terrible attitude .
2) Celebrate Little Wins : It is not easy keeping up a positive attitude even in the face of adversity, so if this goal is achieved. Always learn to celebrate yourself, either through a meal after work, going for a work or getting yourself a gift. This could be all the boast you need to keep a positive attitude.
3) Settle Underlying Problem : In the world of medicine, when treating a topical infection, it is advisable we administer a tablet, so it will detroy the infection totally. If we are able to know what triggers our rage, hostility and awkwardness, then it is a sure step to us maintaining a stable and positive attitude.
4) Always Smile : Most of us are often mistaken to be rude, saucy and non approachable because of how stern our face is, a little smile while talking to someone will help boast your personality portfolio. It is often said 'an apple a day will keep us away from the doctor' but mine is 'A smile a day will boast our positive attitude' .

Indeed, a lot of reasons can influence the way we think. Our background and exposure too can influence the way we think and to change this, we need to also change our environment that has limited us as well as our circle of friends sometimes if need be. A positive mindset would help us achieve a lot more.
