Slang and Vulgar Language

Languages develop and deteriorate.

Humans developed languages to communicate. Languages are deep-rooted in the lives of the people. Languages didn't come in a few days, months, or years. It took years to get into the present-day languages.

Slang is a part and parcel of human lives in society. The literary works of different times keep records of slang language propagation among the people.

The meaning of words comes from the actions and reactions of the people. Slang words also were invented with people's frustrations over failure. A word that was considered slang during the fourteenth century may change its meaning now in the 2020s.

Slang is popular on social media and in films, especially in web series

Every social media user knows that slang language is very popular among a part of the popular video content creators. Vloggers use slang words to get views of their content.

It is a fact that slang words and obscene thumbnails can easily attract viewers to the content. It is unfortunate but true that slang content often goes viral on social media.

You may notice there is a trend for using vulgar dialogues in films and web series. Viewers seem to like seeing their favorite celebrity actors speak slang languages like the common people on the road.

An "adult" certification from the censor boards seems to help movies sell better than a "universal" certification. I have viewed web series with heavy doses of slang languages here and there.

Politicians use slang language to criticize their opposition

Slang language is a common tool among politicians to blame the opposition. Ministers often speak in the political meetings with some doses of slang words in between.

The common mass is confused with the slang languages of the politicians. But, the hardcore supporters of political parties like slang words in the political speeches of the leaders in meetings.

Spectators cheer up their favorite political speakers with claps when they hear slang words in their speeches. The more slang words a political leader uses in their speeches, the more popular they are among the political news media.

Politicians and ministers can get away with vulgar and slang language.

Citizens may get penalties and punishment for using slang

The political leaders and ministers speak in vulgar language, but they generally don't get any punishment from the government or respective political party leaderships. Ironically, foul-mouthed political leaders get awarded by the party leadership in terms of position inside the party.

Freedom of speech gives the political parties the power to speak anything in any tone, even with heavy slang language. But, the common people often get penalties and punishment from the local police administration.

National laws and especially new cyber laws may impose penalties and punishments, provided someone files a complaint with the police station. And, if the common people use foul language to criticize the local government, they can't get away with it without any punishment.

In a recent incident, an Indian video content creator has been arrested and facing court trials for alleged slang language against some state ministers. The vlogger used vulgar language to highlight the wrongdoings by the governments under the ministers.

Bringing it altogether

  • The origin of slang language is deep-rooted in human civilization.

  • Slang language is a part of literature, films, web series, and video content.

  • Politicians and ministers frequently use slang language in their speeches.

Recently, slang language and vulgar content are trending on social media.

  • Common voters get penalties and punishment under the new cyber laws for using foul language and vulgar content on social media.

  • But, politicians and ministers don't get any penalties or punishment for using slang language, neither from their party leadership nor from the government administrators.

Postscript

  • If you use slang and obscene thumbnails in your content, you may sometimes get viral views, but you may also invite penalties and punishment from the local police administration.

  • A severe consequence may also force your channel removed or content censored.

Freedom of speech is good, but with freedom comes some responsibility.

As a blogger, video content creator, and a responsible citizen of the planet, I NEVER recommend using any slang language and vulgar content.

Not all people could understand slang language. That could lead to misunderstanding because of the thought that the information they get is correct when the slang language has a different meaning. We should consider that all people are not knowledgeable about it.

It is true that not all people understand the meaning of slang language. There is another way of pseudo-slang, i.e., a language of double meaning.

Because I considered online writing as a valuable source of information, I am avoiding the use of such form of very informal language.
