Who is a Leader?
I recently read Chapter Nine of Brain Tracy's book "No Excuse," which is about leadership and self-discipline. I became motivated and committed to write an article on leadership using the lessons I had learned from the book.
I stumbled across an essay by @Olasquare titled "Are you a leader" this morning while reading various publications. I was astonished since I had also intended to write on leadership.
Someone who is self-disciplined
Well, as you may already be aware, discipline is a crucial quality that everyone who wants to succeed in any career or endeavour in life must possess. But self-control differs greatly from discipline in general.
You need self-discipline, or the capacity to restrain your emotions and weak points, to be a disciplined person.
For instance, if you enjoy watching movies, you may regulate your temptation if you have self-control by resisting the impulse when you have other essential things to accomplish.
You can only learn self-discipline by teaching yourself. You can ask for counsel from others, but only you can teach yourself self-discipline.
Self-discipline is the most important trait a leader must possess because when you can manage your flaws, you can also control other people's weaknesses.
Every level of organization in life, including the home, the classroom, the workplace, government, etc., need leaders.
When you have a competent leader, even if your soldiers are not as powerful as your opponents, you may still be able to overcome them because you have a commander who can successfully lead and guide them. This is one of the factors that sets an army apart from its rivals.
Someone who takes responsibility
You must learn how to take responsibility if you want to be an effective leader.
Even when they are not responsible for the blunders, leaders don't search for someone to point the finger at. Insofar as it occurs under their control, they accept accountability.
A role model
A leader serves as an example. a role model and someone that everyone looks up to.
When a boss is corrupt, you can't assume that his subordinates, employees, or officers won't be too. Everyone's behaviour inside an organization is influenced and affected by whatever a leader does.
Africa's current underdevelopment is a result of poor leadership, among other things. There are corrupt and unfit leaders at nearly every level of government in many African nations. Let me focus on Nigeria, where there aren't many politicians who can be thought of as credible. Any business or nation with bad leaders cannot function effectively.
Someone who doesn't bow to pressure
A leader is someone who can function well under stress and remain composed in a crisis.
I have a lot of respect for the president of Ukraine since he stayed in his nation throughout the early stages of the conflict.
To overthrow Zelenskyy and his administration, Russian soldiers were on their route to Kyiv in late February and early March. Zelenskyy was given a ride out of the nation by America, but he declined. That is a fantastic example of a leader.
Someone who maintain composure during crisis
A good leader maintains his composure in the face of adversity and demonstrates that he has total control over any circumstance, no matter how dire.
Instead of panicking, a wise leader assesses the situation and takes choices that will lessen or resolve the issue or loss.
Considering that everyone looks up to him, a leader must maintain composure under pressure. A leader's followers or subordinates might take solace in him when he is composed.
Take Putin as an example. Even though he and his nation are subject to harsh sanctions and have suffered defeat on the battlefield, he maintains a positive attitude. He is aware that everyone is closely observing him. However, he is abusing his position of leadership by doing something improper and unjustified.
I think I should end this essay here; perhaps tomorrow we'll talk more about the responsibilities, characteristics, and demands of a leader.
