Expectations and Realities

Nigeria celebrated its independence day on October 1st. A day designated to commemorate the commencement of self-rule and the anniversary of the British government's departure. Yesterday was our country's 62nd anniversary of independence.

Nigeria, the most populous black nation on earth with a population of over 150 million, should have been in a festive spirit yesterday, but it was just another ordinary day. Why?

What is worth celebrating, any Nigerian would undoubtedly respond if you asked them. There isn't much to celebrate in my country's current situation, in fact.

When a child gets older, it is normal to expect them to mature, gain knowledge, and act more civilly. However, instead of my nation developing as I described in the example above, the opposite is taking place. Nigeria appears to be growing worse every year, with an almost fast fall in every sector of the nation.

Who is to blame?

The issues we face today are most definitely due to us Nigerians. No foreign agency should be instructing a sovereign nation on how to run its own affairs, therefore I won't make the error of blaming it on them.

We created the issues we are currently dealing with on a global and local level. Even though poor leadership is one of the key contributors to the issues our nation has, it is not the only one, many would claim that it is the root of the nation's troubles.

The Nigeria of today is undoubtedly not what the heroes who struggled to free us from British rule could have ever imagined.

The stakes were high for our nation, and it was expected that we would rise to prominence as one of the world's and maybe Africa's biggest powers. Nigeria is a huge country, yet it has shrunk into a dwarf.

It won't alter anything if I keep whining about how disappointed I am in my country.

Lessons

My country's circumstances have taught me that expectations and reality are sometimes very different. Although expectations are frequently expressed, this does not always guarantee that they will materialize.

The reality is unpredictable; it may be assumed, but not always with certainty. All of us have hopes, dreams, and objectives, but the truth is that life isn't scripted like a movie, and many things can come into play and alter the path of our expectations.

But what do we do if our expectations aren't met? Simply said, let's go back to the drawing board and look into why. The best course of action is not to give up and admit defeat.

Conclusion

Expectations are great, but how great they depend on how they pan out.

Because of this, industries like medicine and engineering deal with both expectations and realities.

Even though they might operate on paper, the majority of the pharmaceuticals we use today are tested on lab rats to determine how they function. This is done in order to demonstrate how safe the drug will be.

Remember that reality is what determines your life; don't base it only on your expectations.

If our fathers who were alive during Independence be alive today, they will sorrowfully cry.

The freedom of a country is verified by its citizens. If the citizens are responsibly happy, we may say that a country provides freedom to its citizens. Freedom is a responsibility of the citizens. Freedom sustains with their willingness not to support (vote) corrupt people to power.

They said a country must pass through difficulties before gaining all round freedom, so it means we are still on the process. But for 62 years?🤦

Well 62 years is little compare other great countries. But what is worrisome is that the situation instead of improving is getting worse.

Happy independence Day dear . A day of pride and dignity to any sovereign country. Exactly expectations must be high but firstly we should prepare ourselves for challenge to meet them.
