The Slovenian Alps are especially magical in autumn and winter, as the picturesque landscape conjures up a powerful atmosphere.
Just before Kranjska Gora, in the embrace of lush forests, hides Gozd Martuljek, a quiet place where you will be amazed by the stunning views of Špik.
What else awaits you here?
Below Špik you can also find two waterfalls, which are considered the pearls of the Slovenian alpine world. Particularly spectacular is the Upper Martuljek Waterfall, which descends over a 110 m vertical wall. The path to it is quite easy, but the path near the waterfall is only suitable for well-equipped mountaineers.
The stream then continues across the Jasenje mountain and, like the Lower Martuljek Waterfall, falls over a 50 m high wall into the 400 m long, limestone-shaped Martuljek Gorge.
Where in the area? You are only five kilometers away from Gozd Martuljek to Kranjska Gora. In Kekčeva dežela you will find a lot of sights and activities, in addition to skiing, also cross-country skiing, skating, climbing ice waterfalls, snowshoe hiking and panoramic sleigh rides.
There is also Planica, which you can go to at any time. As part of the Nordic Center Planica, 7 new ski jumps with accompanying facilities have been created, and this is where adrenaline enthusiasts can go down the cable car - Planica Zipline.
Opening of renovated ski jumps in Planica:
If you are not interested in winter sports, you can also catch the winter idyll on Lake Jasna, where in addition to Capricorn, a bunch of picturesque images await you. You will find it before the start of the first bends of the road to Vršič, where you enjoy the view of the beautiful Julian Alps in the background.
One of the popular destinations nearby are the emerald green Zelenci, a small lake with a swamp located on the northern edge of the Triglav National Park. The greens do not freeze in winter, and you can walk along a special wooden footbridge to the lake and through the swampy surroundings, which were declared a nature reserve 25 years ago, without harming nature.
In the heart of Gozd Martuljek, the alpine Resort Špik was established in 2009. The richness of the beauties of the surrounding nature is reflected in the character of Hotel Špik, its form and comprehensive offer, which is based on the exceptional beauties of the alpine environment.
Hotel Špik enchants with the feeling of sustainable coexistence with the mountain environment, the beauties of nature and the stamp of tradition. Authentic and carefully selected materials bring warmth and friendliness to the rooms, while the wide open views of the Julian peaks and the Karavanke forests have a calming and relaxing effect on guests.
Saunas (Finnish, Turkish and herbal), cooling in the ice cave and cooling pool with glacial water, jumping into the massage pool or swimming in the larger pool, which offers wide views.
