Who are you?
If I am going to ask you to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
I can still recall some of my moments in primary and secondary school where teachers would ask us to describe ourselves using one word, animals or things. As far as I remember I would always describe myself as a tree. Well, it is very common but you can’t blame me for that. Trees are known for being strong and as a child, I wanted to show them that I am a strong person so that no one can bully me. Just kidding. Deep inside my heart, that description was a sort of declaration.
The way I view myself when I was younger was a lot different than now. And I think, I am not the only one experiencing this thing. Most of the time, we tend to look at ourselves based on what we hear to other people and experiences in our lives. Admit it or not, we all have reached the point in our lives where we ask for man’s validation. We gave them the authority to label us and the sad part of it is we just keep on receiving it. We often forgot that we are not a sponge and we shouldn’t absorb everything we hear and see especially if it is about us.

Rejected
Failure
Worthless
Useless
Loser
Those are the words that I constantly received from the people around me and whether I like or not, it really affects me and how I perceive myself. They put those labels in me and I just let them do it. And to be honest, it made me lost me. I lost my self-esteem, hope, passion, confidence and eagerness to live and enjoy my life to the fullest.
For so long, I’ve been carrying those placards that they have hand in my chest as my label. However, everything changes when I encountered the Lord. He broke those chains that bind me and remove the labels that the other people and even I put to myself. It was like God was carrying a megaphone with His hand and keep on repeating to my ears the words “that is not who you are!”

Those six words change my life and I am writing this today to change how you view yourself as well.
THAT IS NOT WHO YOU ARE!
You are not rejected; you are accepted
Always put in your mind that a man’s no is God’s way of protecting you. When He closes one door, He will open another one.
You are not a failure; you successful
Failure is part of success. You can never encounter successful people who never experience failure in their lives.
You are not worthless; you are worth it
Remember that your worth is more than rubies. God didn’t sacrifice Himself to make you worthy, He sacrifice Himself because you are worthy.
You are not useless; you are created with a big purpose
God never make a mistake. If He created you, then He definitely made you with a big purpose in life.
You are not a loser; you are victorious
Christ is victorious so you do you. Always remember that you can do all things with Christ who strengthens you.

Closing thought
People will keep putting labels to you. You can’t stop them for doing that. What you can do is to never carry those labels and always focus your eyes and ears on what God is saying to you. He knows you better and you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

The only being who can judge us is God. It may seem cruel what I am going to say, but in order to move forward in life, we must break those ties that other people give us, with comments that destroy us. Each one of you has a unique being that we must value.
