Good evening everyone in read who happens to be bouncing around the globe here and there!
I like friends who drag me to travel. One time, I and two of my other friends were eating and waiting for our time to go inside the cinema. It was around October 2016 I think. These two were of a different set of traveling friends. I think I met people who have moles on their feet - like a lot of them.
We were merely talking while eating and waiting and one started saying let us leave town on Valentine's day (February 2017)! Then she starts looking for flights somewhere. And she had us looking at flights as well.
And then.. Ooops! We're booked!
Check these lovely people out! They have Fantabolous stories!
So it was still a long time before our flight and we have enough time to plan. Where we off to?
Dumaguete.
Why Dumaguete? Dumaguete is a perfect jump-off point going to Cebu and Siquijor if you have enough time. Also, possibly Bohol (not included in the map below). So since we booked in advance, we have time to lay down our itinerary. For that, we have opened ourselves up to plenty of options, too.
If ever we were not up to leaving Dumaguete at all, for any reasons, we have Dumaguete itself to explore. The flight from Manila will take approximately an hour and thirty five (35) minutes or less. We arrived in the afternoon with just enough time to lay down our back packs on our lodging area, rest a bit and roam the Rizal Boulevard. It was a cool afternoon. Sky was getting dark but why not, right it is after all, about night time.
We enjoyed the sea breeze, the sight and the lights. Silently giggling at the thought that it might rain because of the clouds and sensing from the water in the air and the waves created by the wind.
Famished we decided to go to find a place to eat. We went to Hayahay Treehouse thinking it would be nice to have a view of the sea while eating a quiet dinner. When we got there, we were surprised to see the place jampacked. Like really jampacked. We were flabbergasted and hungry. Hunger must be written in our faces. We tried the next restaurant with the same fate. It was fully booked. We lingered longer hoping for a chance. Turns out the people eating there were also on the clock. Because they have incoming guest at certain hour that also reserved a table.
The owner, filling in for her staff, saw us. And saw that we were just few butts to accommodate. She allowed us to sit on one vacated table and told us we can eat there but we would need to make sure we can finish by a certain time - enough time for a quick dinner, actually. Better than none, we decided to order and thankfully food was served quickly and it was delicious. We were able to chat up the owner and we were told that usually Valentine's day is also their peak day. And those that were there weren't locals they were tourists also like us. Most of them have been staying in the island for a long time already. She was friendly. She was also the person who told us that we were in for a luck because we happened to land and have a vacation in Dumaguete chancing on their "occasional rainy" days. Yup. Forecast says it will be rainy.
But no backing down, right? Besides, we've contacted some locals to arrange for our tours already. I will never forget our super chilly trip to Manjuyod Sandbar. We moved to another accommodation so we will be nearer. We rode a tricycle to the port with splashes of rainwater on our faces. Road a boat still with splashes of rain water on our faces.
Thankfully, a bit of sun was there for us in the sandbar. Well, a bit. Then it started to rain again on our way back.
I also cannot forget our trip to Siquijor Island. That one I might reserve for next stories later on. I was excited to see Siquijor again. I was excited to see their faces when they see even just the port of Siquijor. Last time I was able to visit Siquijor, it was surreal. It was like waking up and boom I'm in blue water, white sand paradise.
But for this trip, it was different. In a quickie, we arrived in the morning it was drizzling and dark so they did not see the blue water and the white sand. We made a quick tour of the island, thankfully the sun showed up. Then we almost got stuck in the island because the ferries going back to Dumaguete were already having a hard time because of the high waves and strong wind. I was ok if we get stuck and stay overnight. But they are not. So we had to go back. We were able to ride the last trip and it was one crazy ride back to Dumaguete. It was that ride that got me introduced to the magic of Bonamine. That pill you pop in your mouth before a trip so you will not get dizzy. It was one boat ride where the one behind you would suddenly start singing praise songs to calm down. The person in the row in front of us began to sing as well.
It was a scary and very dizzying ride.
Then we were back in Dumaguete with a little drizzle. Dry clothes not so dry. And definitely ready for bed. Which we are yet to get to.
...a little trip down memory lane for when you really should be reserving tables, and checking the weather. hahahahaha..

Iniisip ko mga Dumaguete sweets. Silvanas and sans rival. I must say na ang generation mostly natin mga millenials ay panay travel. Ako hindi masyado kasi bilang sa kamay ko mga pagsakay sa plane. Pero ibang friends ko hala travel kung saan-saan noon. And buti hindi kayo natakot with Siquijor. Kasi yun yung gusto mawala ng mga tiga Siquijor na isipin ng mga tao sa lugar nila lalo they have a lot of beautiful places to offer to tourists.
