NaNoWriMo Novel Teaser: Blades
[WP]There were eight swords, and each sword could control an element: earth, water, air, fire, light, darkness, life, and death. You somehow managed to find the Life and Death sword.

It was 6:00 PM.
Frost was having a nap in her room, and while I was free to take any room of my choice, I chose to sit at the window, looking outside.
The men in the ambulance had left - thank goodness, but suddenly that didn't even matter anymore. Two days ago, I was a nobody and even I wouldn't be interested in myself. Suddenly I was thrown into this whole picture by nothing but fate - a fate decided I would be a guardian of these two swords, the most important of them all.
Me.
Vince Martin, the greatest underachiever at Cliff High school. It was no surprise when I had to relocate to the outskirts of the city to live a solitary life, away from the city and its hustle and bustle.
I was always a loner.
But now, I was in the center of things, for at least a generation. Frost's help would definitely be needed 90% of the time if I was to fit into this role. But now she was sleeping, I realized one thing.
I could not remain here, not forever at least. Staying here in the current situation meant I couldn't go out, not if I wanted to be killed. But at least, just once, I had to get out. I had to just breathe some outside hair, clear my head, and take a walk.
Ten minutes.
Just down the street and back.
Nothing could go wrong.

He was born during an eclipse, so he was named Yami.
At least that was what he was told; that was what he'd believed. But after a while, he saw that the name was prophetic - he was always in the tunnel, never seeing the light, never knowing what true success was, always fighting for what was not to come to him.
Until that sword came. Yami no Ken, it said on the package box. It had been sent by an unknown person, and he'd abandoned it as junk to be retailed. Until he heard the legend of the Eight Swords of Geaven - the perfect blades that could be used to protect the world or end it.
Yami no Ken was the name of his sword, and it was inscribed on the flat sides of the blade as well. He did not know whether it was the very sword of legend, so he took it out.
Black blade and handle. For a sword literally called 'sword of darkness', it was living up to his name. But as he held it and looked into the mirror, he discovered both he and the sword were invisible.
Dropping the sword immediately, he rushed to the packaging and brought out a manual. A letter fell from it, and he picked it up to read:
Yami no Ken is a sword of darkness, but that shouldn't be read literally.
Darkness is more than just the absence of light, it is stealth, secrecy, obfuscation of that which exists. For this, it can grant you the ability to be hidden in plain sight - you become darkness in the midst of light; that which cannot be discerned. You are able to blend with shadows, to become invisible, and during the night,m your strength and speed are increased fourfold.
Your destination is 121 Almond street. Find other sword wielders like you.
But be careful, Yami. There is someone out there, and he possesses the Sword of Fire. Your power is a bit weak to his, so be vigilant, and prepare yourself for battles ahead.
As he put his things in order, a task force was already heading for his location. They had gotten a tip from an unsuspecting delivery man.

What was it about, and why him? Who was at that house?
Would they like him?
There were too many questions on his mind, and none had an answer. Yet. As Lance Johnson got down from the taxi and began the walk up to 121 Almond Street, he had no idea that a task force unit had already spotted him.

The task force unit couldn't believe their luck.
They'd lost one boy, and now two were about to walk directly into their arms. Three swords were already within their reach, and the boy would definitely lead them to the other girl.
They were six men, and now they knew about the tricks these boys would have.
What they didn't know was that Vince had spotted them.
