The spirit of Christmas is just around the corner and pandemic is still not over yet. People are busy getting vaccinated or debating whether they would get one. Life is full uncertainties. No matter how we plan our day, week or our whole life, we will never know what will happen in the future. Nevertheless, let us still hope for the best and leave the worries for tomorrow.
Few days ago, I've read about Marinov's article which discusses about how people have turn the limitations brought by the pandemic to opportunites for people also to practice creativity. Over the course of pandemic, people started to adapt and learn ways to survive and earn while still being at home.
This reminded me of the kid who visits our work place twice a day to sell foods.
Meekjoy is twelve years old and the youngest of six siblings. All of his siblings had finished their studies and already had stable work. He even proudly shared that he got a 'magma cum laude' Magna Cum Laude brother, there is also an engineer and a doctor. His father is in Manila enjoying the perks of being so loved by his kids while he and her mom is left her in the province. He told me that her mother would also go on a vacation from time to time sponsored by his brothers.
Despite the abundance and the blessings that they receive from his siblings, still Meekjoy manages to sell foods everyday. He is not the type of kid who constantly looks up to his siblings to ask for allowance. Also, he doesn't spend his day playing mobile games just like the other kids. He helps his mom and do some household chores and also he is dependable and responsible when it comes to handling money.
Everyday at 10:00 a.m., Meekjoy would walk with a box of food that he gladly sells to the online teachers. We are almost 50 so all of his food will be sold out quickly if everyone would buy at him.
Everyday he has different menu some of them are: menudo, afritada and beefsteak which costs P40 per serving. Monggos, sari-sari, nangka and ubod costs P20 per serving. You can also have breakfast foods such as chorizo with egg and dried fish 'buwad'. Her mom cooks all the food and it tastes good.
At noon, he would come again with delicious snacks such as puto, buchi and toron.
He does all of this everyday that when he is absent we could really feel the emptiness of our stomach. 😅
This kid is hard-working and obedient. He would do small favors from teachers. He would fill water tumblers if he noticed that it was empty. He would even go outside the center and buy fried chicken for teachers who want it.
When all of his foods are sold, he would roam around and look for a vacant computer station. There he would log in his facebook account and checks if his crush uploaded a new photo or a new tiktok video. He would smile and giggle if he sees one. Then, he would open a nee tab and watch videos on Youtube for minutes. When he feels like it's time to go home, he picks up his empty food container and quickly disappears.
Meekjoy is the joy at the center. He is everybody's darling younger brother and he is loved dearly. He, too loves the teachers. Though, he has her favorites he still doesn't fail on checking other teachers. Sometimes, he would throw jokes and dance in front of any sad teacher.
He is an inspiration. At a young age, he thinks and converse like an adult. I could really see that this kid has a bright future in store for him. No matter what life challenges he may face, he can overcome it because as early as now, he is exposed to it. Through the years, his experiences will pile up like a ladder that he can use to lift himself up.
Good evening read-friends! I hope I have passed to you the amount of inspiration I got from this young kid.
The rain is pouring here in our area. I used to love the rain. It makes me sleep soundly but tonight it makes me long for my family.
Thank you so much everyone! To my sponsors, upvoters, to the people who spent time to read and comment, you made my soul happy! Thank you heaps!
