Photoblog: BnW and Volleyballs
In Oslob, they have a different level of love for sports specifically the game of volleyball. Back in my little hometown in Bohol, I rarely see anyone playing volleyball. The sports that most of the Guindulmanons love are Basketball and Lawn Tennis. But in Oslob, volleyball is life.
Thanks lovies!
Pre-pandemic, they have several leagues happening regardless of the month, summer of course is the busiest. They have the governor's cup and other sponsored ones. My sister-in-law also is a fan of volleyball. On the other hand, I started liking volleyball after watching Alyssa Valdez play for Ateneo de Manila when she was still a freshman. I still love watching her play today but I also explored other players, and teams and even developed a love for international players like KYK and Zhu Ting.
But my entry today is about a common neighborhood volleyball play, one where they play for Php 20. The players will give Php 20 each and the team that will win takes the other team's Php 60 as each team only consists of 3, at least that's the number yesterday. On other days, more players would join.
It was already 4:30 PM when I went to the area where a makeshift volleyball court was made, there were many people around already and the majority of them were not wearing any masks! There was no social distancing too! I guess the people here do not fear the virus anymore.
Last year, there was no such scene as this, it was very strict, policemen would hunt those who were not wearing masks that the townspeople would fear being caught instead of getting the virus. Today, it's quite different, perhaps they got tired of wearing masks and they got tired staying indoors that they decided to do something about it.
These players were not even in their best attires, no shoes except for one guy, they were either on their feet or just plain slippers. The play isn't serious, most of them would just joke about each other, they laugh, and they kid each other but they sure were sweaty.
Audiences and bystanders were in the area too! The crowd was starting to fill the area. Most of them were young people. They were just relatives of the players, cheering, but most of the time also throwing out jokes.
On the other side are the titos, they are the neighbors and other ones who were from somewhere and just stopped to watch.
The others brought their plastic chairs so they'd be comfortable while watching the game. It's an informal game so they are not expecting anything great. Just pure fun!
And of course, if there's a crowd, there should be food. Vendors had brought their tables, umbrellas, grilling stations, and frying materials so they could cook squid balls, tempura, grilled banana, kwek kwek, and more. There were also green mangoes available!
My aunties also sold some grilled banana coated with margarine and white sugar. It has been years since I had eaten one so yesterday, I ordered a few sticks. I am not a fan of margarine but for grilled banana, it suits just well especially when the banana is still warm and the margarine melts in it and the white sugar just sticks effortlessly.
There were so many people not wearing masks that it made me scared thinking someone might be a carrier of the virus but is just asymptomatic.
But nonetheless, I just stayed away from the crowd while taking photos and video clips. It was already almost five and the sun was just right with the golden hour.
My mother-in-law was also around and she had my baby Matti with her. I just asked her not to bring the baby near to anyone who's not wearing any masks and she was careful not to let Matti walk around.
But perhaps the best thing about that afternoon was the rainbow that showed up, there were sprinkles of rain, just slight ones and then the rainbow was displayed over us, it's always amazing when I see one.
Thank you for reading, I miss making photoblogs so I guess I will make more of these in the future!
