Matti’s Cry, Car Maintenance, Hubby's APE
Last week, my husband went for his annual physical exam at a specific health clinic in Tagbilaran City. This was required of his employer but since they need to do it from a partner clinic as it is covered by their HMO, he had to do it in the city. The clinic had no available doctor the other week so they had scheduled him to come back for the physical exam interview with their resident doctor.
It’s a Tuesday and the start of the month so we decided to also schedule some other important matters like Matti’s DTap and car maintenance, both of which have been delayed for months now.
So as early as seven in the morning, we were already on the road. The scheduled car maintenance was at nine in the morning and it takes around more or less two hours to reach the city. Unfortunately, there were hindrances as it was the start of March and it’s Fire Protection Month too so most of the towns had their fire department going around the roads and it caused a little traffic. We arrived in the city 20 minutes past nine in the morning and so the scheduled maintenance was no anymore valid, James went to the car service as a walk-in customer instead. All was well though. This was for the 15k mileage.
The other important thing was Matti’s DTap vaccination which is a vaccine for diphtheria and tetanus. The DTaP vaccine is given at 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 15 to 18 months, and again at 4 to 6 years of age. Matti’s scheduled DTap vaccination for 15 months was supposed to be on January 27 but his pediatrician got positive with COVID that she was unavailable for two weeks for her quarantine period. Then in February, we were very busy that we were not able to go, it is okay because it can be delayed.
So we went to Allied Care Experts Medical Center in Tagbilaran and waited for the doctor. We were third on the list and the doctor arrived at ten in the morning. However, she still had to do some rounds for her admitted patients so we had to wait for another hour. Finally, at eleven in the morning, Matti got his shot. He was crying even when we were still at the door, I believe he was all aware of the shot as we had been here multiple times and each time, he’d go out crying.
But everything went well, he cried but the shot was just given in the left leg. Next month, in April, he will have another shot once again. This by the way cost Php 3500, why are vaccines so expensive? Well, I remember when we had our first visit to a pediatrician in Chonghua Cebu, we were billed almost Php 10,000! Having a baby is just expensive!
Also, I was advised by the pediatrician not to have screen time yet until Matti turns two and he must be allowed to watch only for two hours. Oh no! No more screen time for Matti then!
And oh, while waiting for the pediatrician to arrive, I had the chance to go to the hospital’s canteen and found they offer a great view of the sea! I am glad that my mother came with us, so I got a companion while at the hospital as James was at Toyota.
We planned to have lunch at Jollibee because Matti is a fan, upon reaching the mall, he recognized Jollibee right away but there were too many people around, the line was too long so we headed out and found KFC had only one customer in their priority lane and since my mother is a senior citizen already, we got ahead in line. Thank goodness!
I just realized that I had not eaten at KFC for a long time so it was nice having overloaded boxes for our meals. Oh, I missed the gravy and mashed potato! I wasn’t able to take photos anymore as I was feeding Matti.
After having lunch, we went to Abenson as my mother has to buy a new fridge for her store. We asked for one which is good for a business, that should be with inverter technology as well as no defrost, and the guy who attended us offered Condura. We paid it when James was done with his doctor’s appointment later that afternoon.
My mother went to the groceries while I went to the department store, just Matti and I. I let him run around the toys section while I pick up a floater for him, I had been searching for some rash guard but there were no stocks for a year old so I guess I have to find one online instead. I also bought new rubber shoes for him. Matti has a taste now, he won’t wear anything that he doesn’t like so I ended up buying a yellow and red pair of shoes, those were the only ones that he would wear when I let him try out different shoes.
It was so hard being in the mall with a toddler but I am so glad that Matti just had fun, he picked up some toys but returned them after I said put them back. I had been testing him if he’ll be having a meltdown but no, he’s such a good boy!
But when he got tired, he just wanted to be carried and boy, this baby’s heavy! He’s 13 kg now and I also have a backpack! So I immediately paid for what I took and went to the grocery area. I need to breastfeed Matti so I looked for a place to sit and I found this Korean dessert cafe named Sulin. They got a corner which is perfect for breastfeeding so I ordered Okinawa Mochi, it’s my first time to try this and I loved it! But Matti was already knocked down before I even get the order.
By the time I finished my medium-sized cup, James arrived, he just finished his doctor’s appointment, and so he carried Matti this time! Thank goodness!
We were done with all our important matters by two-thirty and so we headed home and reached the house by five!
That’s how my Tuesday went! How about you guys?

Vaccines and babies are really expensive, so for the moment I will not have one, until I have a comfortable place to live, because in my country it is really expensive to buy a house or apartment, but I am willing to buy a house at some point.
Apparently Matti had a lot of fun in that place, at that moment he had already forgotten that he had cried because of the vaccine.
