Cebuanos love rice, that's certain except if you are on a strict diet and are avoiding carbs but if not, rice is life! I have heard of a joke where it says, what's the plural for rice? And the answer is extra rice! Have you heard of that?
And if we talk about rice, we'd definitely go to somewhere where rice is unlimited! Let's then go over to Hukad in SM Seaside Cebu! Let's go down memory lane and experience a rice overload at this restaurant where I brought my sisters, niece, and nephew after going window shopping in SM Seaside.
With clean and orderly space, each and every table was complete with the plates and condiments, chairs are positioned well and the lighting was perfect! There are just spots within the restaurant that has a tendency of getting warm because it is near to the window and since we went here for lunch, the heat from the outside is coming in from the windows and they didn't put any blinds for that, perhaps the diners wanted to have a view.
But nonetheless, the ambiance is really good, plus it has a good view of the Cebu City port area and the ocean!
Their hanging lights reflect that of what's very well known to Cebuanos, the hanging rice or what we locally refer as "puso" which literally means heart.
We ordered our food right away, the moment we sat down, the staff handed us the menu and we selected what caught our attention. There were so many options, Filipino food of course! It took us some time to pick what we are going to eat. The staffs were very patient with us, they had to wait, serve other customers while we were taking our time, it was hard because we have to consider the kids too!
After a good amount of time, we were done with our orders and the staff happily took our requests. It didn't take that long before they could serve our food. We were, of course, happy to eat here because we got a long table all for ourselves!
I can't complain about anything except for their Calamare which didn't come with a special dip for it. As per the staff who was checking on us, the dip will be of a separate request which we missed asking, only found it after we had eaten.
Baked scallops are also served here and I highly recommend them. They are buttery and melt in the mouth! It was even served on a sizzling plate and I guess it was intended that way to keep the food warm for a while. But we got to be careful not to touch the metal part!
You are a true Filipino at heart if you love fish soup! Hukad serves yummy fish soup too! This is very needed especially for those families who have children or are elderly but even the young adults need this too because we just have to take in something hot, it's very Filipino!
I remember my mother who always say, we should go to a restaurant that has fish soup so our tummies will be warmed! I don't know if that's really important though but that's how they were trained growing up. They got to have warm soup every meal!
Hukad serves their fish soup in a heating pot. This means the soup continues to be warm while it sits on the table. I love that idea!
Some other viands we ordered were their Crispy Chicken and Pancit Guisado. All were tasty! The chicken looked overcooked from the outside but really, that's just how they made it because it is crispy chicken!
Pancit guisado is always present when going out on meals because it is affordable and it is always served in huge amounts. So, it is given that most of us will be filled already with just the pancit!
We all love the food we ordered of course but the restaurant's unlimited rice offer is still the best most especially if you have male companions! We were all female except for our two-year-old baby boy but we still ordered their unlimited rice.
What's so cool is that they serve it in this traditional serving spoon made of wood and coconut shell.
Of course, we had a good time at the restaurant. The staffs were really good at entertaining and making sure that their customers have a comfortable and satisfactory dining experience.
This is simply reflected in how happy we were. Thanks for reading!
