Do I have to put myself or others first?
Today is another day in January. Counting from the beginning of the year 2022, today would count the 27th day of the first month and this would also be my 27th article for the year.
Gradually the new year is surely going to end again. âJourney of a thousand miles begins with a stepâ. It is so amazing how quickly time flies. And the best we can do is to make sure we create happiness for ourselves.
Thanks so much for the encouragement â€ïž
This would lead me to the topic of today. I was going through my mail and came across the prompt word by Shadowspublising. âDo you put yourself or others first?
This is kind of a logical question most times we find ourselves in situations whereby we would be left with no option but to choose either ourselves or others? It happens between couples, siblings, families, peer groups, and even at workplaces.
There are times when you would have to choose between yourself, your wife, or your mother. It is kind of skeptical but we just have to choose. There was a short video I watched on Instagram where a guy on a rainy day had to choose between his mother and his wife/girlfriend to give his jacket and shoes. He went further to give them to his mum and carried his wife/girlfriend.
What I want to point out is the fact that at times we always have to make critical decisions in our lives. A man earning some amount as salary would have to put some stuff on priority, he would have to provide for the families and also take care of himself. Would he have to ignore taking care of himself because he just had to care for his family or he would take care of his family and forget about himself?
I remembered a day when I was left with a little amount on me which I already budgeted to buy foodstuffs for schooling. I was about to go to the market to buy them before I got a call from my younger sister requesting help. I felt remorseful, so I told her I am not having anything on me. In the long run, I couldnât take how her words kept on repeating in my memory, âwhat ifâ what if she couldnât make it just because of this little amount? Canât I spare my food for her? I got bothered đ. I had to make a move, I needed to do something then.
The next step I took was to send her the amount she needed which was equivalent to splitting my foodstuffs allowance halfway. I had to do it for her. Immediately I told her I sent her the money then she immediately went for what she needed it for.
I got to the market to buy the little foodstuffs I could afford. It was around evening time, she gave me a call to appreciate coming to her aid and she added âHad it been I never sent her the money she wonât be able to sit for her exams because she was among the last batch to make their payments and those after them were not allowed in.
In conclusion
There are times we would have to put ourselves first and there are times we just have to think about others and make them a priority. Rendering that assistance and support might mean a lifetime to them.
But while trying to put them first, if it appears that the repercussions from doing so wouldnât help our individual lives then itâs better to just put yourself first, then others should follow.
