Causes of a Person's Personality Disorder

For ordinary people, usually in rural areas, do not understand personality disorders, they think that personality disorders are always synonymous with stigma and confusion. In fact, their view of psychologists is that they are only people who do not necessarily understand the personality disorder experienced by a person, so it is not surprising that they prefer to go to a traditional healer to treat mental illness. The common people living in the countryside would feel humiliated if the psychologist told them about someone's abnormal character.

These things were told by my classmate when he was doing a practical assignment in a village. I've never experienced it. Although many of them do not believe in a personality disorder, in fact, some citizens do have a personality disorder. Many causes of personality disorders are suffered by a person, the most common is a traumatic experience.

Talking about a person's personality disorder, there must be someone who asks, what factors cause someone to have a personality disorder? From a book in the campus library, I found a good book to answer this question. The book entitled 'Personality Disorder Threshold Diagnosis & Comprehensive Treatment' written by 'Sylvia Detri' and published in 2015, explains that there are five factors that cause personality disorders:

1. Genetics or Heredity

Previously, many people believed that personality disorders were just lazy or evil people, but researchers tried to find out the causes behind personality disorders, then they began to identify genetic factors that might occur. Some researchers have identified a faulty gene in the genetic chain of people with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Several other researchers are also looking into the relationship between genetics and anxiety, fear, and anger.

2. Childhood Trauma

A person's bad experience is very influential in the formation of a person's personality disorder. An example is a borderline personality disorder, usually, this personality is formed from childhood sexual trauma, and this must be treated immediately.

3. Verbal Violence

In one study, someone who was verbally abused more than three times as a child was at risk of developing obsessive-compulsive, borderline, or paranoid personality disorder when they were adults. So, verbal violence can be the cause of a person's personality disorder. For those of you who have become mothers or fathers, please don't be too hard in educating children.

4. High Reactivity

Personality researchers call High Reactivity because the formation of a timid, shy, or even anxious personality can be caused by sensitivity to sound, light, or other stimuli that play a role in the formation of the personality.

5. People Around

It seems we all know that the people we are closely related to can be a negative influence on a person, especially a child. Anyone can be a negative influence on someone, be it a teacher, relative, or friend, even ourselves can be someone's bad influence.

Those were some brief explanations that we can know about What Causes Personality Disorders. Hopefully, this article is useful and hopefully, our lives are always healthy, both physically and psychologically. thank you for reading

Maybe I need to be patient by teaching my daughter sometimes I say bad words to her. I think I'll stop it, I don't want my daughter to suffer like this. I know my daughter was a bright child, she was lazy but she's not stupid. Thanks for this article, because in the past few days I suffer from stress that's why ill speak harshly to my daughter.😢😢

OMG, please don't do that too often. This will have a negative impact on your child. It's also possible that bad things happen to you when your child is an adult

If someone visits to a psychologist to take some consultations then they people by whom the victim surrounded with they consider that victim as a mental patient and start to traumatize her/him. We need to take to this mental illness more seriously than now. We should treat those victims with more care and love, it will help them to recover from their illness more quickly.

I don't think so. It is precisely the victims who think too much about psychologists. If that happens, why should the victim consult a psychologist?

Yes, there are so many personality disorders that exist within us, but some are dangerous and some are not too dangerous. But every personality disorder must be cured
