I was really happy to have come across this article because self censorship is something I think about a lot as a writer. I do not think that I write controversial stuff, but sometimes I overthink things. And if I'm not comfortable about something I wrote, I either don't post it or if I don't feel good about it, I take it down.

I think at the end of the day it is simply a matter of knowing your audience. There are places where I may be more inclined to post controversial stuff. Noise and read are likely not one of them. It depends on what it is, though.

I don't think it self-censorship per se. It's just knowing there is a time and place, and knowing when that time is and where that place is.

Just my two cents.

Self-censorship can reduce a lot of problems even in real life there are some issues I dont like talking about because you never know who will get offended with what you say, but nowadays you see people writing all sorts online without caring about others! how low have we gone o humans!!

Self-censorship here turns into manual censorship in real life. We can't talk about everything in front of everyone, we can't do whatever we want, we are subject to certain rules or we restrain ourselves out of respect. These can be considered censorship. As a matter of fact, some rules can be circumvented. How can we do this? Using the power of words, using a softer style, maybe we can overflow a little bit.

I find myself self-censoring too. It’s often needed for the peace sake. I don’t take sides in arguments and if I don’t like what someone wrote, I sometimes unfollow them and move on to the next post/article. I also try to bear in mind other people’s religions and views when writing.

I have a live and let live attitude in general.

Sometimes I don't censored myself at noise, haha I am blunt sometimes but I think some of my opinions is not that calling for violence but I did try name calling once, and I got warnings from noise. So I am more careful this time. But we cannot please all people, there are always haters even if we do good or bad.

Those people who make dummy accounts just to speak ill to others doesn't have a life, or kulang sa aruga haha

Definitely. Censoring oneself must be practiced at all times whether in the platform or in personal life. ☺️

You talk about extreme! Extreme is not the same as posting something someone else might not like, feel hurt about or offended. These days many people feel easily offended and there's hardly humour left. People forgot how to make what weight heavy on their shoulders lighter by having a good laugh about it. Laughing seems to be forbidden.

If it comes to restrictions every site has them or policies. There are no sites where people can not report you, make your life miserable or where they do not ignore you and read something else instead.

No matter what you write there will always be someone who hates it, dislikes it or can't smile about it.

Yes, a couple of times I'd refrained myself from posting something on noise cash for fear of offending someone. It's a fine line that can be difficult to determine though. If it's not on the extreme, some people can be offended by the littles of things. Oh well. Such is life.

True na minsan magandang mag-vent out kaso baka may masaktan. Nakita ko din yang post mo sa Dbuzz. Kaso pareho lang sila. Yung Pinoy Ako Blog, bayaran din yun. Kahit saang side naman ng politics, pare-pareho sila. Mahirap lang malaman sino lesser evil kasi marami dyan, mababait kuno magsalita pero nasa loob kulo. Parang "wolf in sheep's clothing". Photo ops dyan photo ops dito. At yung iba, garapalan ugali.

One of the things I like about Noise and Read is that they are generally low toxic. It's true that there is spam. But there aren't insults like on Twitter for example. I'm surprised that this user called you an idiot, that's very wrong. I have read him for a long time, first in Publishox and then in Noise. It was quite offensive. I here even though I publish about the situation in my country, I avoid getting into political discussions. And religious themes.

Hahays! Right. Censoring oneself or self-evaluating is not that important to those people who are feeling have rights and power. They just let it out whatever they think is right for them.

I remember the other day, I couldn't help myself but comment on a boosted article here on read. The writer shared that she tested positive for covid19 but she still doesn't believe in the virus. Having known people who died from covid, I couldn't stop myself. Patola ako pagdating sa misinformation eh.

I think this is a place where you can give your opinion about what you like or dislike but you should do it in a way that does not attack anyone. I think there are many platforms where you can go and write things in a nasty way and those are the places where those who live looking for disputes can end up. But if you want a quiet place to write, respect, read others, share achievements and be at peace, this is the place.
