Date: 8th March, 2022
Tuesday
At first, let me apologize for it as I am going to tell you about something which is actually remembered and celebrated on 7th March but I'm here now with it on 8th. I was busy yesterday & little bit upset. Never mind. Today I'm going to tell you about a speech that actually changed the fate of a nation. A speech that had millions of dreams inside & a great man spoke it instead of them which sparked the lightning of freedom. A speech that shook the cruel rulers & brought the freedom to a nation. Yes, my friends. Yesterday was a renowned day, 7th March. The day when the founder of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the war against the oppressors with his tremendous voice and inspired the people to stand for their rights.
How it began...
The former East Pakistan which is now known as Bangladesh was ruled by the Pakistani leaders. But the people of eastern part were demanding their own rights from 1947. They were brutally controlled by the government but how long? A brave leader came forward and started to fight for his people. History always remember these leaders as the history changer man of the world. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the man of that point who raised his voice and let the world knew about the suffering & demolished dreams. People of Bangla were supporting them. After winning the 1970’s election in huge margin, the then government didn’t hand over the power to him. Rather they accused him and the people of eastern part for everything. This poured oil in the flame. Sheikh Mujib understood that they would never let them that. He understood that it was the high time to call for a wake up. People were looking at him & his voice. And then, this historical incident took place.
March 7, 1971
Ramna Race Course which is now known as Suhrawardy Udyan started filling with people. Not by 100 or 1,000 people but the number crossed 1,000,000 in the time. No internet system was then. People got to know from one another and started gathering at that place. Nowadays when we have powerful media facilities, we barely manage people to join any rally but at the time people came out willingly for their rights.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman stood infront of the mic and said ❝ My Brothers... ❞ and that’s how the 19 minutes long speech continued. He started with the explanation of the problems which ended with a ferocious declaration. He announced that the Bengali people must be ready for a war and asked civil disobedience movement in every part of country. He told to built fortress in every house. Specifically, one line just spread the dream to the million s when he said, ❝ The struggle this time, is the struggle for independence. ❞ This was enough for the the Bengali people. They understood what they needed to do and thus the Liberation war of Bangladesh started just after the Pakistan army initiated Operation Searchlight on innocent people on 25th March, 1971.
The impact of the speech was heavy. After the sudden attack and massacre of army, people formed their own troops and started fighting for their country. Each and every person directly or indirectly got involved in the Liberation war. After 9 months, the people got their freedom, their own land, their own identification, their new nation, Bangladesh.
International Recognition
This renowned speech has highly inspired many people and they quoted it in many places. UNESCO has a list of world's important heritage documentary where this famous speech is enlisted. In Paris, this decision was granted on 30th October, 2017 by the Director General, Irina Bokova. It is also included in the book of We Shall Fight on the Beaches: The Speeches That Inspired History by Jacob F. Field. It's also in the Constitution of Bangladesh. What an amazing speech!
A nation which waited for a long time to achieve their ultimate goal, finally got the direction by an inevitable speech. A speech which changed their fate and wrote down the rise of a new nation. The speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will always be remembered as an iconic speech of all time.
