Howdy folks, how are you all doing today? Sorry I wasn't very active on readcash for most of the day and that was because of my adventures around the world π₯° a bit confused? Well, let me start from the top.
A friend of mine gave birth to a beautiful baby girl some months back while I was in school, so I told her I will come to visit her during the holidays and today was the day I did that.
Her brother is my roommate in school so I asked him for directions to her house coz I haven't been there since she got married and he gave me a vague description of the place.
Now, everyone living in Nigeria knows how we describe locations, we make use of local landmarks π;
when you get to the bus stop, come down from the bus and look to your right, you will see a woman selling Akara (beancake), look beside her and you will see a motorcycle park, walk towards it and you will see a green storey building, count about 10 houses from that storey building and you will arrive at a brown bungalow with an electronics store at the front, take the road beside it and be looking out for a washed-out green house with a black gate, that's your destination (it can even get crazier than this sometimes π).
The above description is similar to what my roommate gave me about his sister's house, but he gave me the street's name as well and that's the key I needed. Before heading to her house today, I used the normal method I use whenever I am going to an unknown place; Google maps
I can't count the number of times this has saved me when going to a new place, be it using its navigational system or simply just making use of the street view feature. Now, the street view feature of Google Maps is where it gets interesting; you will get a 3D view of the area you're searching for!
My siblings and some of my friends will tell me that maps aren't accurate but I guess they don't know how to use it, coz it has never failed me. When using the map, I make sure to explore more than one of its features when looking for an unknown place, that way even if I don't get an accurate location, I will get something very close to it.
That's the method I applied today to locate the house of my friend on the map. I tried searching for the street name the brother gave to me, but it didn't come up with anything coz I spelled it wrong. So I decided to just look at the general area and see if I can locate the street.
After searching for a while, I finally saw the street π. I remembered watching a video of my friend on Facebook standing in front of a house (which I deduced to be hers), so I went back to the video and watched it while observing the area, and then I went back to the map and made use of street view, I located her house right there on the map!
At that point I was feeling like a spy, I am currently watching a spy movie titled Nikita so I was feeling like Birkhoff (he is a hacker in Nikita). Anyways, after locating her house I decided to have fun with the map and that was when my adventures started
The tour
First off, I located my house on the Google street view and I noticed it still has some old features from some years back, so I guess it hasn't been updated yet. I got curious about why it still retains the old features so I asked them (Google, lol) and I got this answer.
So I guess it's only highbrow areas that will have recent features. After that was settled, I remembered @Cogamedia talking about Dubai some days back and that was where I went next. I took a plane and flew straight to Dubai, I landed at the Dubai international airport and I took a taxi to the Burj khalifa π.
I explored outside a bit all thanks to the 3D feature of the street view, and then I went inside π I couldn't remember exactly how I did it but it was fascinating. I could even explore different floors of the 160 storey building, that's impressive, right?
After that, I visited some other locations like the Dubai international trade center, the Dubai frame, some shopping malls and restaurants, and then Abu Dhabi. After a while, I decided to explore some other country and I went to the united states first, specifically California.
While in California, it occurred to me; why not visit the Philippines? And that's where I headed next. I didn't even spend much time in California, I was still at the airport when I decided to leave for the Philippines. When I got there, I couldn't figure out where to go first but then I suddenly remembered manila from some of the Philippines movies I have watched.
I took a stroll to Metro manila and I love it. There are tall buildings and billboards everywhere I look. I instantly recognized someone from one of the billboards, she's an actress from one of the Philippines movies I watched years ago (The poor heiress).
From there I figured I need to visit another city, but which one? I remembered someone mentioned Cebu in one of their articles here some weeks ago, so that's where I went next (Cebu city). I visited some locations like the Cebu Taoist temple, a museum, the temple of Leah, a family park, and thereafter I hit the streets.
Cebu looks quieter and less congested than Manila, I am guessing Manila is a bigger city. While exploring, I noticed a billboard with "Hong Kong noodles house" written on it, and I instantly know where to visit next. Let's go say hello to ate Jane, Hong Kong here I come! π€©
The first place I visited when I got to Hong Kong is Disneyland, that place is huge! There are lots of places to visit and I went to some of them like fantasyland, Cinderella carousel, castle hub, space mountain, and others.
After visiting those places, I got tired and decided it's time to end my adventures for today. I still have a couple of countries I will like to visit and I might still go back to the countries I visited today if I remember something. I still haven't explored Hong Kong well, so I am definitely going back there.
Conclusion
And that's the end of my virtual tour of some countries of the world π€© have you ever used Google Maps and some of its amazing features? You can try it as well, especially the street view, it's amazing.
Just in case y'all like to try it out and don't know how to make use of the street view, just let me know in the comment section below so I can do a tutorial article about it. For now, I am back in my country and I am looking forward to another tour tomorrow π

I remember my first time using google map, I wasn't that familiar with it then, I and my friend was acting like a pro, we were ending to jumia warehouse to pick something I bought, πwe walk around the area for more than 1hour, until we tried the 3D view. That's when we realize that we are just two blocks away from it.
