What We Did Before The Year Ends; A Simple Christmas Gift
December 31, 2021
Before the year ends, it's always been our family's tradition to give back the blessings that we received to other people in need. Even though we were also affected by the typhoon and are in need, this doesn't stop us from doing what we've gotten used to doing. The family's tradition never stops, no matter what the situation is, and it will continue till the next generation to generation.
What we always do before the year ends is a feeding program and give gifts to the kids that live in mountain areas. On the mountain where my grandpa owns 90% of the land, This was initiated by our aunt who lives abroad, who is also the major sponsor of this program. She was basically the person behind all of this.
In 2020, what we did was make some fried chicken for the kids and put them in a packed lunch, and we also wrapped some gifts for each of them. We played some games so that the kids could also be entertained and enjoy the day. Last year was so much fun too, because of our fun journey all the way. The road is not that big, an a multicab couldn't fit, so we just walked all the way to the top.
So, this year's 2021 was that we couldn't cook some foods for them because we were too busy preparing ours for the new year's eve and also for our family's gathering, so instead we just ordered a Jollibee for the kids. Even though we were so busy that day, we still gave them time to give the food and gifts to the kids in the mountain area. We got there at lunch time, or probably late lunch, because it was already 1 pm.
When we arrived there, we were greeted by the smiles of the kids running towards us, calling us "ate" and "kuya." They already know the drill because they immediately fall in line with what we said to them the first time we did this feeding program. They followed everything we said to them as they were so obedient. We gave them the food and also the gifts, and you could really see in their smiles and their eyes how happy they were receiving the small gifts that we had for them. It's so satisfying to see someone so happy because of the simple gifts you gave them.
We also give gifts not just to the kids but also to some families who don't have an income because of what happened in our place after we were hit by the typhoon. We gave each of the chosen families a 5 kg sack of rice for them. We only prepared 30 sacks of rice and we only gave it to the people in our area and also in the mountain area. There were lots of people here who still doesn't have an income after the typhoon hit. They still don't have a job because some places don't have power yet and also have no network coverage.
When we gave them each a sack of rice, they were so happy. Even though it's just a 5kg sacks of rice it already give a big help to them. It feels so satisfying to see someone so happy because of what you gave to them espe the smiles of the kids that shows in their faces.
After that, we went home at 4pm and when we arrived home we went directly back to our task that has been left undone because we went to the mountain area. Every year first day of the year or before the year ends we always have a family gathering at our grandparents house. Thankfully this happens because the power is back, if it's not this wouldn't be happened.
I was the one assigned making the desserts and my cousins assigned cooking barbeque while my other cousins are the ones wrapping the Lumpiang Shanghai. My cousins are so full of pranks, you know what they did? They wrapped rice in a lumpia wrapper instead of the meat, and they also wrapped lumpia wrapper in a lumpia wrapper LOL. And you know what's more annoying is that I was the one who got it both. HAHA
And our pranks isn't done yet because we adults also joined the exchange gifts of the kids that was only worth 50 pesos or a dollar. We immediately went to the store and bought some junk foods. LMAO. My cousin bought 50 peso worth of snow bear, my other cousin also bought a 50 peso worth of Mikmik which is a powdered chocolate. When we did the exchange gifts, I was the one who got my cousins gift which is a 5peso worth of sour gumballs HAHA, but we all ended up giving them to our younger cousins.
It was so much fun. Everyone of us really enjoyed that day. Even though we were hit by the typhoon Odette but that doesn't stop us from enjoying the things that we want to do. We can overcome whatever the challenges is as long as we are together as a whole family. ❣️
