"Mankind at its darkest and hungriest"
The world, like individuals, evolves with each passing day. From the advancement of technology and our way of life. The number of people living in poverty has risen in line with the growth of the world's population. I will just put the Philippines as an example. We Filipinos are fully aware that the number of people living in poverty in our country is growing day by day. When the pandemic happened, the number of teenage pregnancies increased, as well as the number of babies being born every day. It is so sad to think that most families who gave birth to a lot of kids are in line with poverty and worst, "Isang Kahig, Isang Tuka" that could only eat at least once a day and living in slums and squatter areas.
This day, I watched a movie that reflected what was happening in our world today, especially to the people. As I was watching, I couldn’t help but imagine the reality that’s been happening in our world. The representation of the movie speaks so much about society.
I bet that some of you here have already watched this movie, as it became popular last year in 2021. The movie was titled "The Platform" and it is a Spanish movie that aired on Netflix last 2019.
There are three kinds of people: those at the top, those at the bottom, and those who have fallen. The tall platform is a 333-floored cell with two people on each storey. The first floor, which is the highest part of the building, was the first to receive the foods given by the organization that established the platform. After a minute, the food will continue to descend until it reaches the platform's bottom.
The people who were on the very low floor would only get the scraps and leftovers from the top floors, and the worst part is that the food could no longer reach the 100th floor. If only all of the people from the top floors could eat the amount of food that they needed for a day, then the people from the bottom floors could still have their ration. But, no matter how much food is given to them, there will always be greedy and selfish people.
Because of receiving no food every day, the people from the lowest floors end up doing anything in order to survive, even if it’s against their will. They ended up killing each other, and what’s worst is that they turned into cannibals, and they ate each other's cellmates just to survive. Every month, they will be transferred to other floors. Some will get lucky and be on the top floors, while some will end up on the lowest floors.
In fact, there was enough food for everyone on the platforms, and the majority of the foods served were favourites of the prisoners, so everyone was satisfied. But they still choose to be greedy.
The upper floors reflect our society's wealthy people, while the lower floors represent the underprivileged who can all benefit from the wealthy's leftovers. Those on the upper levels, on the other hand, overconsume and are given no reason or motivation to share, resulting in inequality, misery, and suffering.
No matter what the administration above decided, if the prisoners communicated and cooperated with one another, they would be able to better survive their prison sentences. They could have survived on the platforms and many people below could have received their rations if they had only cooperated and acknowledged solidarity.

Remember when the pandemic hit? many individuals began stockpiling supplies to the point when store lanes and shelves were completely depleted, leaving only a few for those who could afford only a few.
