Jijisaur's Learning Journey -Blog #10 (Red Vs. Pink)
To my foreign friends here, you may skip this article because the topic is about Philippine politics. You might find the article not interesting since it is purely about the Philippine politics
Hello, beautiful people of read.cash. I hope you are having a wonderful Thursday going through.
The political game in the Philippines is trending! Many people expressed their thoughts on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Tiktok. Different reactions and emotions are flowing through the internet.
Some cannot come to a point, some respect each other's opinion. The worst is, people are going below the belt. They will curse, say bad wishes, and even incite harm just because they do not agree.
In this learning blog, I will be focusing on the political side this time. So if you are not into politics, you can skip this article in the meantime. :)
I will be also focusing on the two leading presidential candidates.
Thank you, sponsors! You rock!
The race is on! Everyone is hyped by the kick-off of the campaigns with only three months left before the elections on May 9th. The COMELEC or the Commission on Elections’ said that the campaign period will be from February 8th to May 7th. It will be for the positions of the president, vice president, and the party list.
ROBREDO-PANGILINAN
The tandem started their campaign in her province, Camarines Sur. Pangilinan and Robredo started the day at the Angat Buhay Village together with Hontiveros, Diokno, Baguilat, Trillanes, Lacson, and Matula.
The presidential aspirant highlighted the reference of slippers. In her speech, she promises that the government will be there on your side when you need help. A government that will stay up all night to comfort you. Will take floodwaters to uplift you. The slippers will be worn by the government to cross the embankments to reach the people. In her leadership, the margins of the society will the center.
The reference of the tsinelas is from her late husband, Jesse Robredo, who is for accessible governance and people-focused.
For her running mate, Pangilinan compared the depth and hardship of the masses to a bayong (woven bag) in his speech. He said that the woven bag should be lifted at the bottom, because when you lift it at the top, the woven bag will break. The things that the woven bag will fall out. Just like the government, people will be carried from the bottom. People who are on the bottom will be prioritized. Carrying from the bottom with bringing everyone up.
Many social media influencers, businesses, and netizens express their support by changing profile pictures of pink or posting something with the color pink.
MARCOS-DUTERTE

Marcos is currently leading in the presidential surveys. He kicked off his campaign on February 8th, together with his running mate for vice president, Duterte. The rally was done in the biggest Arena in the Philippines. The Philippine Arena is situated in Bulacan that can seat 50,000 people. The rally was hosted by Ms. Toni Gonzaga.
In Marcos's speech, he highlighted the unity among Filipinos. He said that he will bring the unifying leadership back to the Philippines. He said that it is not about politics. It is about unity among Filipinos.
He encourages the people to be a part of the unity movement. We should adress the needs, things to be done, and so Filipinos can recover from pandemic and economic crises. He said that though we do not agree on so many things, he hoped that we can agree that we are strong to handle situations like these to face the world. We are prod and loud to be a Filipino.
Vice president aspirant, Duterte, unity is easier to attain if everyone will treat each other fairly.
Duterte said it would be easier to achieve unity if everyone will treat each other equally and fairly. She said that she believes in Marcos's leadership skills, which are backed by his long experience as a chief executive and a legislator. She added that we must protect Marcos. In the future, she will push for jobs and livelihood that are sustainable for Filipinos, good quality of education, and a peaceful country for all.
Final Thoughts
This is a different learning blog for me because I only focused on one subject. The political situation for now in the Philippines is trending. Everyone has an opinion of whatnots.
We should accept that there are things that we cannot ever agree. We should respect of what people believe in. We should not resort to inciting harm or harassing people just because we have different views.
In the end, we are one community. We must unite. We have the same motherland.
Whoever will be the next president and vice president, may she or he will serve the country and people with love, unity, and peace.

Unfortunately, social media has contributed to the erosion of values among Filipinos. Whether because of the anonymity it provides, or that people don't have to spew words in person, has seemingly given people the license to attack, bash, discriminate, and worse, hate on each other. How can we put an end to this culture? It starts with each one of us. STOP engaging in posts that destroy people. And STOP spreading posts or news that are really misinformation or disinformation. Learn to FACT-CHECK most everything you read before taking it as truth. Finally, learn to DISCERN - who to believe and who to support.
