People always believe that if someone can do something, you can do it too. Personally, I don't believe that. This is not to attack those who have high expectations of themselves, I admire them (you) for that attitude of high confidence.
I am not here to take away your confidence but at least, let's be realistic. There are things that we often refer to as "dreams" because we define them as impossible or beyond reachable. It's something that requires you to do more than your capabilities.
We don't share the same body types. We don't share the same level of thinking. We don't share the same talents. Some are fast-movers, others are late bloomers. We have our own ways of coping with situations. Each of us is unique.
One can do something that others can't do because of a specific ability. One is highly intelligent in Math but doesn't do well in English. One can also be good in English but fails in Math. One can also do both, with a talented hand for artistry.
You can't expect someone to be as highly functional as you do.
Sometimes we get too overwhelmed by our ego saying that we can do everything when in fact we are just setting standards too high for ourselves.
Still, not everyone is born with the same privileges.
Money is the most influential and effective strategy for someone who can jump the social ladder and disregard the hard work others did.
Take this as an example:
A person who works hard to get his salary buys meat and vegetables in the market, prepares his food, cooks it singlehandedly, and eats it. On the other hand, a prince sits on his throne and just waits for his meal to be served.
A disabled person who can't function well versus an able-bodied person who can do everything without having to worry of slowing down because of disability.
That being said, it showcases the high difference between the two situations.
Everyone carries loads. Everyone goes through difficult situations but not everyone is fortunate enough to unload all of the burdens.
It's not our fault we are born rich.
Yes, it's not your fault but as a privileged person, showing empathy to those who are struggling is the least you can do. I admire those personalities who spend time doing outreach programs and charity works.
It's just frustrating when someone uses his privilege to hinder other people's chances to reach their success. Crab mentality. Greed.
You would say that my point is to give others reasons to excuse themselves from trying their best because of their social class and other determinants a person may be defined.
It's not. My main argument is that a person may have given his/her all, sacrificed enough to get out of the situation he/she's in, but if time and higher people won't permit, your feet will remain to where you stand right now. You can't take a step forward.
One even has the guts to kill a person. What more about controlling your future. No matter how determined you are to achieve it, if someone disallows it, you have got a serious problem. Real, heavy problem.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to who wanted it more. You must have the drive upon achieving your goals. The main point of view here is that at least you tried rather than just stay being stuck without taking the effort of finding that light of hope.
It's about instilling a mindset that "I may not be as privileged as them, I'll work hard for myself. I will do my part, I will do my best. I'll try and exhaust everything that I can contribute for my dreams".
Oh well, this came out as an aggressive, expressive, and ranting article but yeah it was supported with my pure intentions of stating what reality is. An unorganized one, but I hope I made my point clear. Haha
