Rich, well-developed, fast-growing, full of skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, the center of finance, trade, commerce, and home of the world's billionaires, that's the iconic description of Hong Kong. Anyone would definitely want to visit the country, not just to see skyscrapers, but to experience Chinese culture and traditions. And don't forget the amazing landscapes of nature outside HK cities. It's not just a place of technology and modern architecture but is packed with captivating landscapes as well. A one-stop spot for tourists who likes adventuring and exploring.
Due to its limited space, buildings are mostly built as high-rises in dense cities. That makes Hong Kong a distinctive one among countries in South East Asia. It may look small geographically, but too vast physically with a world-class beauty.
Have you ever wondered what's the tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong?
Its ICC or International Commerce Center was opened in 2011 after constructing for 12 years. It currently is the 10th tallest building in the world by height and stood beautifully in West Kowloon at 484 meters above sea level.
A five-star hotel, offices, supermarkets, restaurants, shopping centers, and other establishments are located inside this hotel. And don't you know that there is a swimming pool on the very top floor of this building? That's exclusive for five-star hotel customers. There are hundred and seven floors above sea level and four floors below the ground.
And if you are looking for the best spot to capture a panoramic view of Hong Kong Island and outlying cities along the harbor, ICC is a perfect place for it. On the 100th floor is Sky100 Observations Deck which is also open for public viewing along with an affordable viewing fee.
We visited the place in the last quarter of April on a very fine day after getting a discounted ticket online.
Getting the ticket was quite a hassle as I lined up for more than 2 hours due to an enormous number of visitors that weekend.
Yet, going up to the 100th floor was just so fast, and only took us a minute to get to 393 meters above sea level. Do not look down or you'll freak out! But it is actually just a 3D image of the buildings and the road, not a real glass floor elevator. It looked real though.
That was the fastest elevator and the network is well-connected to the Express Rail Link West Kowloon Terminus located just within the same area.
As we stepped out of the elevator, we passed through a tunnel-like corridor and then traversed through a glass floor with glimmering HK city underneath. A world-class design I must say.
We were reminded to maintain safety precautions before entering the area as it was too crowded that day. Removing masks even in taking photos was strictly prohibited, or else, we'll be penalized. For safety purposes, we followed the protocols and wore masks the whole time.
The observation deck offers scenic panoramic views of the big cities on Hong Kong Island and other cities along the harbor, especially on a good day. The weather was perfect that day which gave us a perfect view as well.
The capital city, Central, along with Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Kowloon Peninsula, and other cities along the Victoria Harbor can be seen up there, even the second tallest building of HK that stood adjacent to ICC.
The port along the harbor seemed busy and several boats and vessels kept coming and going on the waters. You can zoom out of the photo to see the amazing road architecture designs.
While looking at the very dense cities of Hong Kong, you will be amazed by the fact that the country was able to house millions of people despite its small size. And have you ever thought of what would happen if a devastating earthquake hit the country?
I thought of that before and even imagined it sinking, but HK is a very safe country with only a little chance of earthquake as it lies within a stable Eurasian plate. That's the main reason why a lot of businessmen are confidently constructing establishments here in Hong Kong. Besides, architectures are well-designed against any unforeseen catastrophe.
Stunning as it is, the bustling Hong Kong cities looked peaceful up there. A perfect spot to take a break from the chaotic city, isn't it?
Cafè100 is also located within Sky100 premise owned by the five-star hotel and visitors could dine in and taste the traditional Chinese and other cuisines while overlooking the stunning coastline of Victoria Harbor.
Apart from taking stunning photos of HK cities, we were entertained by 5G Lab interactive walls, VR fun experience, and AR photo booths where we parachuted and glided along the harbor. It was truly fun with the help of the Sky100 app and of course, its free wifi.
There's a souvenir shop and photo booth to collect souvenir shots, and visitors can even drop a postcard and it will be sent to the recipient anywhere in the world. A smart health corner is also available installed by 5G Lab in case of emergency.
We waited until night as planned as we want to witness the sun going below the horizon and the city to light in different colors.
It's even more stunning at night and it must be more romantic while dining in at Café100.
My small but terrible buddy taking photos.
When the clock hit eight in the evening, the light show effects and virtual fireworks displays surprised us. We were waiting for the Symphony of Lights if Tsim Shau Tsui city, but to no avail.
That's how our Sky100 journey ended. After catching the fireworks displays, we headed back home as it was getting late. And our discounted HK$66 viewing fee was so worth it. I might go back to this place again someday to take souvenir photos in its photo booth which we didn't take. It would cost us HK$100 each, but I guess it's another worth spending.
