Should Awards be the End game?
Award nights are meant to be glorious, one that everyone looks forward to, but over the years so many awards are being criticized and some sections even boycott such awards. We’ve seen the fans and many even nominees of different awards complain about the credibility of these awards and the public’s reaction is to call them sour losers, but when even the recipient of the award talks about how the award has no meaning to him, then something is definitely not right... We have so many global awards that are talked about a lot all over the internet.
The past few weeks and days saw so many dramas which have overshadowed the real talking point. Ask people to name 5 winners from the last Oscars and you will be surprised to see people quiet. The Chris rock et Will smith saga was enough talking point for all. We've had so many controversial comments made by different people either before or after an award. Some have promised never to attend subsequent award nights. The FIFA the best award, Academy award, Ballon d'Or, Golden globe award among many others have a diverse way of nominating and choosing winners.
For the FIFA award, Captains, Coaches and writers pick the winner and their votes are shown after the award, but so many other awards do not give details of voters, only the criteria used are shown. One thing is certain, after every award, there will always be some people that are not happy about the selection of winners. Studies show that losing in a category you’ve been tipped to win affects most artists psychologically. Some people feel they are not good enough or their effort wasn’t appreciated by the public.
Should the hours of toll and hard work by an artist or footballer be brought down to just an award?. what should be the End game for everyone? For Musicians what should be the biggest source of Joy to them is the number of fans that listen to them. The number of fans that stream their song, the number of fans that will pay to watch them perform live, the number of people whose lives they changed through their song, the smiles and happiness on people’s faces when they hear them sing, the warm welcome and love showed to them by fans whenever they get down from the plane or car. I believe that should be the primary goal. That should be the source of satisfaction and not just an award. Awards should be the candles on a cake and not the cake and icing itself. If you get it “fine”, if you don’t, it’s still okay.
For those in the movie industry, getting your audience entertained, acting, producing and writing a script that passes a big message to the public should be the goal. People paying to see your movies, cheering you on red carpets and writing loving messages to you are far bigger than any award. Awards should just be a plus? dessert and not the main dish.
For a footballer- “What should be the end game?- award or medals?”. The fact that only one player is selected as the best in the world shows how null the award is. My favourite has been the recipient of this award countless times but I’m not a fan of these individual awards. Football is a game of 11 players, not just 1. If I’m a player and I’m asked to pick between winning the world cup and winning the Balon d'Or, I will pick the former. I’m sure that will be the choice of 99.9% of other players too. Therefore not winning an individual award at the highest stage shouldn’t discourage players from giving their best for the colours they represent- country or club.
In conclusion, e will continue to have different awards and galas, we will continue to have so many controversial decisions, we will continue to have fans disagreeing over the choice of winners but disappointment experienced after each award can be prevented if artists/ Participants see it as just an “Award”

We all know it never ends. There is always the next award to be won.
